Diana's Story

Life Hi dear Pius X 1976 classmates! I was hoping that we would have a '76 reunion to celebrate 31 years since our graduation (oh my god!), but given the time commitment to organize such an event, maybe not. I am happily married to a great guy named Dave Bell (Dave is a very popular name in the Casares family.) In July 2003, we were blessed with an "instant" family when we had our boy/girl twins, Jay and Katy. Hopefully, they will keep us young. Unfortunately, we will not see retirement until they graduate from college, which won't be until 2025--that's scary. We live in San Marino, where Dave grew up, and I am lucky to work very close to home in nearby Pasadena. We are active in Holy Family Church community in South Pasadena and other LA groups, like the Juniors of Social Service, Huntington Hospital and with our college alma maters, LMU and USC. I am still practicing employment law as senior corporate counsel for Kaiser Permanente, where I have worked since graduating from Loyola Law school. Even law school graduation seems like ages ago, and believe it or not, I still enjoy being a lawyer. I was lucky to have found a perfect fit for me in this hard profession. Living in the LA area, we see my siblings, Dave, Robert, Rick, Carla and Marty, frequently and are still doing our family BBQs. My sister Carla lives in Northern California with her family so those visits aren't as frequent as we'd like. My Mom and Dad moved away from Downey about 15 years ago to the desert near Palm Springs to enjoy their retirement. Unfortunately, we lost my beloved Dad about 2 years ago after a sudden illness...Expand for more
developed on a trip to China. One of the positive things about that sad event was that we saw and/or heard from lots of college and dear high school friends and their families (Mary Tellers, John Toppin, Bob Cabrera and his entire family, Sandy Ponce, Clark Bruner, Rick English, Rich Burson....) And, Father Ed Jalbert, our wonderful former history teacher at Pius, was one of the main celebrants at Dad's funeral. It was wonderful to have him with us during that really hard time. We love Father Ed for keeping in such close touch with us year after year and helping us keep in touch with some of you. On a happier note, all else is very well with the Casares/Bell family. We travel every summer to Yosemite with the entire Casares gang for our one week of family camping (that's all I can handle) to relax and reconnect with one another and the growing number of nieces and nephews. We're also lucky and blessed to travel every year to Kauai, our home away from home, where this photo was taken last year (2006). My brother Dave and his wife Rachelle (also a Downey girl) are frequent visitors and Dave has his special lounge chair on the beach. Yes, he is still constantly tan, mostly from golfing with Clark. Whenever we get stressed, we count the days until we're back in Kauai sipping a mai tai or two. Well, I think I have mentioned most of the basic facts about our life in 2007. We have been blessed with a great family, great friends, good health and good work. I think of many of you often, especially when I drive through or around Downey, and hope you are all doing well. With affection, Diana
