Diana's Story

Hi Guys, So, I'm really sorry that I was unable to make it to the class reunion. I would have enjoyed seeing everyone. I can't believe that it's been 32 years since I moved to Oregon leaving all my friends behind. I attended Thurston High School (yes, the famous one that Kip Kinkle shot students after killing his mom and dad the night before) for my Junior and Senior year. It was not the easiest transistion as at that grade level kids have had the same friends forever and Thurston just happened to be a bit of a snobbish school. Oh well, I graduated with great grades and immediately went into banking while attending community college at night. May of 1979 I met the man that was to become my best friend and soul mate. We married exactly 3 months later on August 4, 1979 and are still going strong as we just celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary. We now have a one year old granddaughter that was born last August 4th on our 28th anniversary. I was meant to be a grandmother, it is the biggest joy of my life. My husband and I have two children; Sean was born September of 1981 and is now 27 years old. Tara arrived 3 yrs later on July 23, 1984 and it is Tara that has given us this first Grandchild. Sean just celebrated his first wedding anniversary this past August 25th. We had quite a August month last year! Crazy to say the least. I was a stay at home mom for many years before going back to the workforce in 1997. I now work for the Eugene School District as the Workers' Compensation Coordinator and Medical Leave Administrator. It is a challenging and rewarding job. I still love animals as much as I did back then, even the baby skunks that Vanessa, Christie and I brought home to my house. LOL... We have had 3 labador retrievers and our current one has cancer and his days are counted. We are just enjoying him d...Expand for more
ay by day. My cat is trying to sit on my keyboard as I'm typing this. :-) Both my parents are deceased. My father died of lung cancer back in 1990 at the age of only 55. My mother died of throat cancer August 4th, 2006 (anyone notice that this happened on my 25th wedding anniversary?) I never did smoke and still amazed that my sister does. Both my brother and sister live near me and I see my brother (Brian)often. He has two children, a boy and girl, age 14 and 13. He started later than me. For all his careless ways in High School he sure is the most healthy person I know. He has worked for a plywood plant here for 29 years. We're not old enough yet to talk about aches and pains so I will skim over that part. I will tell you that I am somewhat accident prone and have had 5 surgeries in 5 years. This should do me for a long time! Needless to say, I have double medical insurance coverage through my work and my husband's. Working with injured employees and the insurance carrier I see the actual costs for medical care nowadays and it really is frightening. I shouldn't talk politics or religion but frankly I'm tired of politics right now, always so much ugliness at this stage. I do have strong faith in the golden rules-not whatever rules fits for the time or place. The reason I had not posted any photos is that my computer was a bit ancient. I just got a new one up and running so will take some time soon to post some pictures. I would love to hear from you all and hope you had a fabulous time at the reunion. I want to personally thank Renee for the thoughtful and sincere offer to stay at her house should it have been possible for me to attend. Please consider one in 5 years and if not that I will attend the 40th. Darn, I'll have more wrinkles LOL! Congratulations on the award winners! Love to you all, Diana
