Diana's Story

My profile photo changes with my mood. This one is my granddaughter who is leaving this week to go to college in Korea. I hope she doesn't stay away long but my daughter and Maia's father will be staying with her on and off until she gets settled. You may have noticed that I used my maiden name here...which is my legal name once again. I have no desire to carry someone else's name ever again. I am a lot more of a feminist than I was back when we first left high school, so if I should ever choose to marry again, I won't change my name again; I think the idea is pretty silly and archaic. My life changed a lot when my daughter and granddaughter moved to Arizona. My daughter is doing graduate work out there (got her Masters in Sustainable Communities) and she loves the climate for horse-back riding. So now I have more time on my hands and another vacation spot. (I booked my first flight out there as soon as she arrived! ...although I am giving her a chance to settle in.) Real estate is still exciting and as I said before....next purchase - winter home in Florida or other warm place. I love New England and even though my family moved West years ago, New England will always be home. Maine coast is the best but not in winter for me! Now if I can just figure out how to transport the cats, dog, horse, lovebird and turtles. (Yes, turtles - it's a zen thing....) New goal- dancing "en pointe" (ballet) again before age 65. Check out the photos I just posted. They sum up the loves of my life! Next to family and pets, my "loves" are real estate, antiques and art. I am always adding to my collections but now time and energy requires that I also delete items now that I am over 60! Good grief! Can you believe it! I really don't feel that old and, hopefully, don't look that old either...although the photo I posted is not very flattering. Fortunately, I started out well and have good genes so wrinkles are few although I have gained a few pounds...which I need to lose if I am going to get in those pointe s...Expand for more
hoes!!! UPDATE- 2010- Breast Cancer just entered my life. Both sides, one lump much larger.( I posted more on my messages here). What a shock! No family history at all! Have had two surgeries. Will need chemo, radiation and another surgery once we have shrunk the larger tumor. I do not plan to have any reconstruction done - so I hope my surgeon has an artistic side. Send kind thoughts and prayers if you read this! THANKS! Further UPDATE- 3 surgeries later.........skipped chemo - for a variety of reasons...and had large tumor removed. Presently "negotiating" radiation. Would love to hear from other women who have traveled the BC road. Well, ta-tas for now! (Literally!) 2015 UPDATE - Breast Cancer came back again - more aggressive this time so one breast had to go and one was reduced after another lumpectomy. I had nightmares before surgery about all my poor breast have gone through including being molested as a teen by one of my mother's friends and even the horror of Kenny McPhee trying to grope me (or acting like he was going to) in the school corridor in high school!! Some memories never leave and my breast being removed triggered a lot! I am still on the mend and have to have another surgery to remove this damned expander at some point. BC is scarier the 2nd time it comes back!! BTW- age 65 has passed and I still have 30 lbs to lose before I can dance en pointe again!! Not giving up and hope that getting back into bicycling will help shed the pounds along with "green smoothies"! I will soon be posting in my Notes my memories and thoughts re: bullying at SPJH when I was in 8th grade. 7th Grade was PERFECT - I had all the smartest kids with me in Division 720, most I knew from Frank I.Brown. 8th Grade was a nightmare. I was demoted to Div. 870 - (2nd smartest) but most of my brainy friends were not with me. Instead I got in with a bunch witches and wise-asses, who had no respect for "nerds" like me. Hated every minute of it. I will write more in NOTES later, I will name names!
