Diana's Story
I'm amazed at how many names and faces I recognize here because I'm terrible with names.
My story ... well I write for a living so you would think this would be a cinch for me to do, but I never write about myself.
A month after we graduated from high school I started working at KGBT in Harlingen. Instead of studying art or law as I'd planned, suddenly journalism became my passion. I never wrote for the high school newspaper or yearbook, but somehow news and writing became my life. I worked at KGBT for 11 years, while attending Texas Southmost College, Pan American University and UT-Austin.
In 1990, I got a job offer and moved to Houston where I worked for another television station - KTRK. I loved Houston, but when my father passed away in late 1997, I turned down a TV j...Expand for more
ob in Los Angeles and moved back to the Valley. I went from living in an area of 4.5 million people to less than 2,000 in tiny Rio Hondo.
I returned to KGBT as a news manager and Internet Director. When the station was sold at the end of 2006, I was shown the door. I took a sabbatical ... relaxed, slept a lot and realized I'd been under incredible stress for years.
A few months later I started working at The Brownsville Herald where I am the Online Editor. I run the newspaper Web site and when a story intrigues me I write for the newspaper as well.
I also love anything to do with the Internet, so my job allows me to write and work online.
I also run my own business online ... I sell Mexican imports, clothing and one-of-a-kind Mexican inspired jewelry that I create myself.
