Diana's Story

After graduating I spent a few years working for the state of California in the Unemployment office in Riverside, then the Disability office in San Bernardino and Long Beach. Next I had the opportunity to do one thing I had always wanted and that was to sing and travel with a group. It was a gospel group and we traveled the US. I had a great time and do not regret a minute of the six years. I had to give it up due to illness and find a "real" job to pay the bills. I went to work for an ambulance company in the Los Angeles area for 16 years and finally reached the burn out point. I was told no one ever stayed in that field as long as I had. I spent the next two years working at Long Beach City College for the head of the PE Department. Some where in there I was married for 13 years, big mistake, and have been divorced for 17 years, right choice. I moved back to the Inland Empire in 1990 and worked for San Bernardino County Schools in the Court School System for 8 years dealing with gang members and drug users, talk about a challenge. I got quite an education during that time. After leaving the County I spent two years working for a local career college then for a temp agency for awhile. I gave up working in 2005 when my father got ill and helped my mother take care of him. In 2006 my mother became ill and I took care of her for 9 months until she passed away. Now I am living with my father taking care of him again. In June of 2007, after a year of remdeling, we moved back into the house my parents built in 1947 when then got married. I guess you could say that I have come full circle being back in the house that I was born in, and they say you can never go home. What free time I do have is spent on arts and crafts, and some computer time thrown in. I make all my own cards and from time to time I even teach art to kids. I'll never make any money at it but I love it. During all this time I have been active...Expand for more
in church and even planned and coordinated weekend retreats for women in the mountains where we did lots of art and personal pampering. All in all I would say I have had a pretty good life, not real exciting to most but I have enjoyed it except for a few bumps along the way. Lots more I could share, but for now thats all. Time to add a few things to my life. In July of 2008 my niece married a terrific guy and they are living and working in Berkeley. They both have great jobs with the University of California Berekeley. Come November of 2008 my nephew is getting married and taking on a ready made family. The gal he is marrying is wonderful. She has two sons and my nephew loves them as his own and they love him. They share a lot in common and she is a student at RCC. He is currently working for a lumber company and has developed some great building skills as well as starting his own web business. Our family has grown this year (2008) by a dozen but we all manage to stay in touch and get together on holidays and most birthdays. If this keeps up we'll have to rent a hall for Thanksgiving and Christmas to accomodate everyone and not sit on each other laps, or step on too many toes. Just attended my 40th class reunion (Oct 4, 2008) and had a great time. This year there were classmates that had never attended and while I didn't have the opportunity to speak to them all it was great to see new faces. Hopefully in five years there will be even more of us. We have all changed in many ways, but we still know how to have fun. My life hasn't changed much in the last year. Still taking care of my father fulltime, it can really be a challenge at times but I'm just glad that we still have him around and hope we will for a few more years. He is still able to do a lot of things for himself but expects most things to be done for him, I guess that is what is known as the privileges of age. More updates as things twist and turn.
