Diana's Story
Life
School
After graduating from THS, I went to Centralia Community College for two quarters. I got tired of the commute and finished my AA at SPSCC. I transferred to Western Washington University and graduated with a degree in Business with a Finance Concentration.
Now, you would think I would be done studying but I decided my student loan debt was not nearly impressive enough. So after taking a few years off of school I began correspondence courses to complete a degree in Accounting. I took the CPA exam in 1999 and have been a complete Accounting geek ever since.
Work
As many of you know, I was Slaveway Deli Queen for many years. After graduating from WWU I decided I loved Bellingham and stayed up there working at Safeway until the store closed down. Uh-oh. Time to find a real job using my education...
I started working at a bank in Bellingham and ended up in the Internal Audit Department. That is when I decided to return to school to pursue a degree in Accounting. I started to miss my family and decided it was time to come home. I made the move back to Olympia and worked for the WA State Auditor's Office for 9 years. I would still be there except...
Life ...Expand for more
...I have four children and wanted to be a stay at home Mommy.
How did that happen you ask? Well, in 1990 while attending WWU I met my husband, Tom. We dated for seven years and decided it was time to tie the knot. Can't rush into these things, you know. In 1997 we were married and baby #1 came along three years later. After that the babies just kept comin'. Diana Ryser with four children? Well, to be honest, if I were younger I would keep having them!
As you can imagine, my life doesn't involve a lot of travel or dinners at fancy restaurants. My family is my life and I feel so blessed. I don't think I have sat down and read a book or watched a television program uninterrupted (PBS Kids excluded) since my first child was born! Playing hide-n-seek or making cookies is just more important right now.
I still keep in touch with several THS and WWU alumni. Kim Ennis, Shannon Kipp (congrats on the engagement!), Sheli Roberts, Kim Christensen, Kaylie Heft and Shelley Rounsley to name a few. From WWU, I see on a frequent basis Lisa Porter, Tammy Shrum and Barb Smith. I like hearing how everyone is doing and look forward to seeing ALL of you at the next class reunion!
