Dianah's Story
While attending San Jose State University, I married and graduated from SJSU . I have two adult sons who live in San Jose and Costa Mesa. I worked in Silicon Valley for 14 years for semiconductor, electronic and start up companies. After my last start up company filed for chapter 11 , I decided a career change was important as I was now divorced and had just survived my first bout of cancer.
I began a very rewarding career in government starting with City of Palo Alto as Director of Information Resources taking them from mainframe to a networked organization. While there in 1993/4, I put the City of Palo Alto on the map as the first city in the US to have an world wide web site. 70,000 strand miles of fiber under the downtown and making the info interactive to attract creative arts businesses and young entrepreneurs to live and work downtown. That brought me national recognition and I was recruited as the CIO for the City and County of Philadelphia where I served as their CIO for over 5 years.
I am best known for making Philadelphia the first major city in the US to have a wireless broadband network to serve the entire city, Wireless Philadelphia. This was the start of the municipal wi-fi movement and I received world-wide attention. After my mayor's term was up, I used my wireless recognition to join the top municipal wireless broadband consulting firm to work with local governments in US, Europe, South Africa, and Australia.
In fall 2008, I moved back to California to help my family and started my own consulting company helping local governments and nonprofits use technology to meet social needs. I am back in Sunnyvale, CA and would love to reconnect.
