Virginia Diane's Story
I attended Jackson Mem. Hospital School of Nursing in Miami '61-63. I graduated from Manatee Jr College with an AS in nursing, Magna Cum Laude. I was married 52+ years to David Bryant (Class of ‘56) before he passed away. He was the Verger for Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Bardstown ,KY. He was also Acolyte Master.
We have 4 children, 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. We have lived in Kentucky for 48 years. We live in Elizabethtown. I am a retired RN, having worked 25 years in Labor and Delivery at the local hospital, 10 years as manager. I also worked L & D at Manatee Memorial Hospital 1967-1972. I worked for Dr. Escalante for 2 years. David retired after 25 years at Fort Knox. He developed a tank simulator and supervised tank schooling. He previously worked at EMR in Sarasota developing telemetry for the Gemini and Apollo space flights.
I enjoy scrap booking, genealogy, reading, volunteering at our food pantry, and visiting my family in Bradenton. I am also trying to downsize. op Gun in Lakeland). We visited 45 states over the years, sometimes camping. We also liked to go on cruises. We had a lake house at Rough River Lake about an hour from our home. We enjoyed it for many years. Our last trip together was on the train to Pennsylvania, in a snow storm, to visit son, Mike, in 2019. He and his wife took us to a Kingston Trio concert and dinner. Fun time.
Grandkids and greats mostly live in Bradenton-Sarasota area. My sister and three brothers and many cousins also live there. Hope to move back next year. The archeological park on Tidy Island has a replica of my Grandmother Bennett’s childhood home. My Great-grandfather Thigpen sold Tidy Island in early 1900’s. My Grandfather Bennett was the bridge tender at Cortez for many years. I have great memories helping him open the draw and putting out lanterns before there were electric lights..
Our son, David, is Produce Manager with Target market in Sarasota. Our son, Mike, is a pilot for American Airlines, Daughter, Debbie works with animal control.. Our youngest son, Darryl, is a Radiology MRI Tech at Baptist Hospital in Louisville.
We are active members of The Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Bardstown, KY.
