Diane's Story
If you had told me in High School that this is the life I would live, i would never have believed it. For a few years, I lived a pretty standard American life: i.e. I bought stuff and I worked a lot to pay for it. PERIOD. I decided that wasn't enough for me---it felt really empty and meaningless just being a CONSUMER, so I scrapped it all for a simpler life in the woods, near water. I lived for the better part of two years in a tent, and then in a school bus that I converted, and I now live in an old island house that my "loveband" and I moved to my land. ll cat, and we HAD a dog who lived to be eighteen and a half! I chose not to have children, but I half raised one of my nieces, and she is like a daughter to me.
I recently opened a tiny art gallery in my town with a fellow painter friend of mine, and so far, we're doing alright! *knocks on wood*
I recently visited Minneapolis and took a drive through my old neighborhood. It is recognizable, but it's not the neighborhood I knew. It's true what they say--you CAN'T go home again, and that's FINE with me. Minneapolis isn't home to me anymore. No more city life for me--I'm an islander now.
