Diane's Story
Life
Checked out Classmates.com out of curiosity and, after mulling it over, decided to add this bio, the Q&A, and begin e-mailing some of the "girls" in the 55-59 class.
I moved a year ago from central IL to Las Cruces, NM, living in our motorhome for 3 months waiting for our new home to be ready. We downsized from a 3000 sq. ft. house on 7 acres to a 1400 sq. foot house on a lot, so it was a major lifestyle change. But we also moved from snow and lawn-mowing to pleasant, sunny weather and no lawn mowing (unfortunately the allergens exist here, too!!). So far, we have no neighbors on either side of us, and are happy because we need to "transition" to living around people again! Our three daughters and son-in-law are still back in IL and we have no grandchildren.
My life has been good. It has allowed me to spend time volunteering in lots of groups, including those involved with education, civil rights, women's issues, the homeless and disabled. n. I'm also hooked on writing letters to the editor---usually political in nature, sometimes controversial, definitely opinionated.
We travel about three times a year to LasVegas (or, sometimes, Laughlin, Reno or Lake Tahoe) for tournaments and gaming activities. I love to read, and sadly had to part with hundreds of books when we got ready to move. Slowly, the numbers of new ones are increasing here.
This past year, we've found ourselves making trips to Chicago for various family things, and may spend Christmas up there this year (2008).
Have never been outside North America. Haven't seen all there is to see here yet! Living so close to the Mexican border, we've managed a couple of trips across into Juarez and Palomas. But haven't done any international travelling which is odd since all of our daughters have, and one goes somewhere internationally once a year.
I do keep in touch with a handful of classmates and would like to get in touch with others and, through them, even more. After all, we're getting on in years and who knows how long we'll all be around.
Feel free to e-mail me. I always check my e-mails.
