Diane's Story

Hello All, My family and I visited Palmer this past March (2010). It was amazing. I hadn't been in North Carolina since 1967. We drove from Brooklyn, NY. My son, who turned 12 this past Easter, was very happy to finally see the school he's heard so much about. I took pictures of him and my husband standing on the porch of Galen Stone Hall. I looked through a window and pointed to the wall where the mail list once hung-- where the girls would run to to see if there was a letter waiting. I told my husband that was where I would look for his letter. The campus is beautiful. I can imagine how beautiful it was when the campus was alive with students and the AFP building was standing. But back then I was too preoccupied with youth and all of its activities to focus on the beauty of the campus. My son Garrett is an avid reader. And he said the campus felt like Harry Potter's Hogwarts ...Expand for more
with children without their parents, going to a special place, living and learning with their educators. Workmen where in Kimball Hall but they allowed us to come in. And it all came back-- how we would eat together, serve one another, and deliver locals. My son did a bit of detective work while he was there and was able to locate the post office part of Paisleys. To save it from destruction a man bought it and moved it onto his property. We called him and went and saw the building on his property. Simply amazing! We called Mrs. Totton from the campus and she came right over and remembered me. She gave my son sound advice on setting goals. We came back the next day, walked the campus again, and took more pictures. We also went to Greensboro and visited the Civil Rights Museum at the Woolworth building. It was a wonderful time that stirred up beautiful memories. Love and Peace, Diane
