Diane's Story

I loved my job from the very beginning. Unfortunately, after 37 years of consecutive teaching, for health reasons I had no choice but to leave teaching 7 years earlier than I had planned. My husband also had to leave teaching early, but I do have to admit, I enjoy the time with him very much. We have been trying to take care of our health with regular walking as exercise, but that will on the back burner for a while after foot surgery scheduled for early June. It has been helpful to be able to sleep in after a bad night and to nap as long as needed when called. I also enjoy making salads with him and reading in peace and quiet. I particularly enjoy hearing from former students on Facebook and visiting as time and distance allow. We did camping out west in the national parks last summer as a way of celebrating out 30th anniversary. As the snow was melting later than usual, we got to see a lot of wildlife that normally would have been up hiding in the mountains. After some of our more extensive hikes, napping was the perfect touch. And not rushing anywhere fit well with my limitations. This summer we are doing Italy for 13 days with Road Scholars (Elderhostel), an educational tour with respect to our aging. Denny has never been to Europe yet, so this is a new adventure for him. look forward to understanding better what I am looking at. Please feel free to contact me. I am sorry I missed the last reunion, but look forward to another. Hugs and greetings to all Diane Kalata Update 2/24/22 Denny and I bought a very small RV with the intention of traveling in spite of Covid and my walking issues. Shortly after we found out our daughter (at age 35) was pregant with our first grandchild. She gave birth a few days 6 weeks early via c-section due to complications. She came home today and my grandson is expected to leave in 3 days. Nothing has been going smoothly, but I know everything will work out sooner or later. I hope life is going well with you all and with yours. I will be sharing childcare with Dawn's mother-in-law. We have camping reservations (2 times, different places) this summer in MI to try out or RV. I am excited to be on the road again. Oh, for fun and creativity, I have been making my own cards. Keeps me stimulated and my brain working. My husband is becoming quite an excellent photographer. I am in the phone book. Sadly they don't let me post my e-mail. I'd love to hear from you Diane My grandson is such a joy to take care of! His 9 month checkup had him gaining a pound a month and growing 2 inches each of the last 3 months. However, my husband is suffering from sciatica so I am also having to care for him until he arranges some back surgery. I am in the phone book and my address is there to0.
