Diane's Story
To all that are perennially trying to define what it is you want to be when you grow up: follow your joy. I'm grateful to my Brazilian mom and Scandinavian dad who passed down passion and industry with that unlikely combination of genes from the north and the south.
I have changed directions many times in my life. That path has not brought me riches, but it has kept me happy and made my life interesting. In high school, I wanted to find a cure for cancer, so I majored in biology in college. There I discovered that the macro interested me more than the micro and I specialized in terrestrial field biology and was also intrigued by psychology. So I became a high school teacher after getting married. Well, one of the students pointed out that I help save her from suicide and I decided to become a counseling psychologist. Quite a switch. By then I had two kids. Amazing how much energy we have when we're young.
I worked with various populations in LA, mostly with the chronically mentally ill. Now we're in Boulder Colorado, and I've been writing and singing when not working for Boulder County Parks and Open Space as a Naturalist or Mental Health Partners as LPC. I published a rather large first book of poetry with Monkey Puzzle Press. Hubby works for JPL in Pasadena from Boulder. It's a nice city, although this winter seems like Alaska in Boulder. entist, so he may be the one to find a cure for something. I essentially sucked in chemistry and physics Not him My daughter Audrey is a communications major with a passion for the environment. She's taking a break from Seattle where she worked on the Stranger magazine and as a DJ for KEXP.
We're not rich, but we're happy having come from the land of fruits and nuts to the land seven miles beyond the bounds of reality. If you remember me, or don't, but want to say hi, drop me a line. Life is short and moves fast, so grab all the joy you can and notice the little things. I believe your life is what you give back to your creator for giving you your life. Check out my blog on wordpress, DianeKlammerPoetry. I've been painting with Roger, writing songs, stories, essays, and of course, poetry. There are many family photos. You will get lost, even with the categories, but life is a mapmakers journey. Be well
Much love to you and yours,
Diane
The heartbeat of a record
More than a scratch than a gap
Written to last through a lifetime
Takes us back
Nudges us forward
Allows us to sing our hearts out
make commitments to love
The edge of a needle
in Morse code
Chambered Nautilus of lyrics
Round sailor recording history
listening to more than a time beat
We share the music among ourselves
In a gap between the echoes
of our lives
In synchrony
in harmony
In drumbeat
