Diane's Story

I am still a very family oriented person. My kids and grandchildren are the loves of my life. I spend about 4 months a year down in the San Jose area when I go down to see my mom. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of growth there and how crowded it is. I know that I could never live there again as I prefer a small town atmosphere. I am currently dealing with some major health issues and I am going to be making some very big changes in my life. This getting older isn't for sissies, but I am certain that many know that already. I don't intend to succomb to old age peacefully, and I am going to enter kicking and fighting and doing my best to remain active. The mind seems to stay young, but whoa...the body changes haven't been pretty. Obviously pert and perky have left the building. I am an avid reader . I have traveled the continental US quite extensively, but still have a few places left that I would like to see. I have done some travel outside of the US, but really don't have the desire to travel outside the country anymore. I can take a virtual vacation abroad via the Travel Channel. It is too much hassle to fly anywhere and if I cannot drive there, I have no desire to go, and beside that it is much cheaper to use the remote. I will add more later. October 28, 2012 This past year has been one of many blessings. Last March I was diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer, and had a double mastectomy. Given the odds of the cancer recurring at a later date, I felt that was the best decision I could make. I have had 3 surgeries this year and I am now done with them. I was truly blessed in that I didn't have to have chemo or radiation therapy as a result of the mastectomy. I had an oncology appointment and tests done a little over a month ago and at that time there was no sign of cancer in my body anywhere. I pray that I continue to be free of the disease. I am so lucky because I see what other women have gone through and I count my blessings daily. My children and grandchildren are all flourishing and healthy. hat we are in a new year. 2015 brought the Price family tremendous loss. In March of last year my youngest brother Kevin passed away very unexpectedly and then in October our brother Greg was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer and passed away less than six weeks later. My sister Carol (Price) Malmquist and my mom is all that is left of our family. We are so blessed to have our mom with us. She will be 91 this year and is very spry and active for her age. I will be heading down in July for the summer and of course the Camden All Year reunion. I look forward to seeing all of my friends and spending some quality time with mom. As for me personally, I am 3 years cancer free (by the grace of God) and hopefully my oncology appointment at the end of June will be clear too. My son and his family have moved back to Minnesota as that is where his work took him. My daughter still lives a couple of miles from me and still has 2 girls still at home, one in junior high and the other a senior in highschool. Her oldest daughter is in her 2nd year of college at Texas A & M in Corpus Christi, Tx and is hoping to be accepted into their nursing program this coming fall. Her son is in the Air Force and is getting ready to go overseas. He will be stationed in England which is a good thing for him because his soon to be fiancee lives there about 90 minutes from the base. He is in the military police. I have been taking some online college courses over the last few years. I swear that I could have easily been a professional student. I am taking this year off from school completely and am redirecting myself for a bit. Right now I am at the beginning of tax season and already swamped. I very much enjoy doing taxes because it helps to keep the mind sharp, the same with school. I am thinking about taking a cruise up to Alaska sometime within the next year. It is so beautiful there. I have several friends and a few family members that have taken the cruise and they all rave about it and their photos are fantastic. For now I will sign off and revisit for an update another time.
