Diane's Story

Life My Kids: Our married, actress daughter is currently living in Chicago with her screenwriter spouse whose scripts are loved - anyone with money want to produce? Her previous success was on stage in Chicago, and Mom has the rave reviews! She also runs several web pages for bands and celebs she met while in Hollywood. My Job: I am in my second year as a teacher of Language Arts for the Dickinson ISD but on contract for Galveston County. In other words, I teach kids 10 - 17 years old who are in jail but not yet in the prison system. both frustrating and rewarding. Not dangerous very often, but we do have officers in the classroom with us. Only 3 teachers. I cover Language Arts (as a core subject), Careers, and Current Events ( and mix in a little math and science), one teaches science (as a core subject), Music Appreciation, and Character Development, and one teaches Math (core), World History, and Social Studies (core). Never a dull moment. Spouse: Michael is with the TX Repository for Aids Neurogensis Research and loves it! Does Access programming, liaison between deceased patients' will and family, has team of data folks to guide. Hobbies: We both do theatre, both professional and community. Direct, act, stage manage, tech. A few I've directed: "Love, Valour, Compassion!"; "Extremities"; "Sylvia"; "Macbeth"; "Midsummer Night's Dream"; "Streetcar Named Desire"; How I Learned to Drive," "Bad Habits", "Measure for Measure," "The Flowering Peach," "Come Blow Your Horn." Upcoming - my 4th Bard: "Hamlet" and then "The Mys...Expand for more
tery of Irma Vep." In Dickinson area? Come audition! College Ah, college in the 60's. Hootenanies in the "Catacombs." Dissecting my shark while hearing the bagpipes on the very first "Earth Day." Taking so many courses that the last two quarters were filled with graduate courses that were much harder and much more fun than the "regular" stuff! Sneaking out of and back into the dorm. Witnessing the last Panty Raid on an Iowa college campus. Heading out in the dead of night to check on live traps for wildlife biology projects. Tramping through brush in various county wildlife areas to survey small animal populations. Learning to play guitar. Getting deep into Shakespeare and Statistical Genetics. Getting married with my roomie as my maid-of-honor and witness. Being Matron-of-Honor and witness at her wedding. Did we ever sleep? Nothing has ever matched those 4 adventure packed years. Workplace I have taken a job with the county, Galveston County. I now teach Language Arts to young teens being held in Detention, awaiting trial for return to family, placement in foster care, or incarceration in the juvenile penal system. It is an intriguing and challenging career change! The things I'm doing in my "spare time": Writing Directing: Last three shows - Move Over Mrs. Markham, The Mystery of Irma Vep, and Hamlet, which was a 5 month process, very rewarding, and received with great audience acclaim. Acting: Just did The Full Monty, for which I also designed lights. Was so great getting back into full, professional theatre.
