Diane's Story
After graduation in 1974 I went to Maryville College for a year studying music/piano. I came home and went back to work and married in 1977. It was a brief marriage, and in 1978 I was employed at the Y12 Plant in Oak Ridge. I worked there for 18 years and lived in Lenoir City and
Farragut.
In 1992 I became ill. In 1997 the illness quickly became crippling and undiagnosed. Since then I've had several major surgeries, and been diagnosed with a congenital heart condition among other things, including two total
hip replacements. I live quietly and peacefully in Oak Ridge.
I've been married a couple of times, but remain single now. Was never lucky enough to have children, and probably would have died or had heart complications if I had...so some things which seem terrible can turn out to be 'good'.
Intuitively I seemed to know I couldn't have children. BUT
I hope you guys have made up for it !!! haha
There's not a lot to tell these days, life is rather simple but
it wasn't always that way. At the plant I was a Quality Assurance clerk, worked in the...Expand for more
Plant Lab and in NMC&A.
For a year I also worked at the old K25 plant before the
teardown began. I enjoyed an active work life, played
the organ for church and picked up more classes after
hours.
I haven't travelled a lot but managed to take Florida vacations, visited Ft. Worth/Dallas TX, went to Las Vegas,
Kentucky horse races, and re-visited Maryland where
I lived from grades 3 through 8. I'm still in touch with a
girlfriend from the 3rd grade. She and I have written all our lives, and she is raising two kids. She keeps me informed
haha.
I took my mother to her reunion for class of '54 just last
year and it was fun. It was interesting to see how classes
have so much in common...folks don't recognize each other after a few years...but we remember ourselves as kids. My father went to his class reunions for Jacksboro High until just a few years before he passed away...at age 86. As the years passed, his small class got smaller but the folks became closer.
Looking forward to the reunion. If you still haven't decided to attend I hope you will.
