We met when we were both teaching in Korea
My Pets
We acquired them at the RSPCA in Hong Kong in 1993. One is a calico named Molly, and the other is black and white, named Maht (which is Cantonese for "Socks"). Sadly, Molly went to the big litter box in the sky about six months ago, so it's just Maht. She's 19 years old now but still going strong.
My Job
I'm a Foreign Service Officer currently studying Vietnamese at the Foreign Service Institute in Arlington, Va, and planning to return to Vietnam in July. My last posting was Sana'a, Yemen. I have also lived in Morocco, South Korea, the Dominican Republic, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Vietnam.
I am nearing the end of my Vietnamese language training. I will return to Vietnam on July 25th and am excited beyond belief to return. My husband is already there; we will be doing a "separated" tour. He is in Hanoi and I will be in Ho Chi Min...Expand for more
h City (Saigon). But we will see each other every other weekend - once a month I will go to Hanoi, and once a month he will come to HCMC. I will be the chief of the American Citizens Unit. The downside of my job is that if you need to see me, it generally doesn't mean good news. You've lost your passport. You're sick and need a doctor. You've been arrested and need a lawyer (no, I cannot get you out of jail). But there are upsides of the job, and I am excited to take them on. Vietnam is a fabulous country with amazing history, spectacular scenery, welcoming and charming people, and some of the best food in the world. I would encourage everyone to come and visit. The wounds of the war have healed as far as the Vietnamese are concerned. More than 70% of Vietnamese have been born since the war; it is just a paragraph (okay, maybe a chapter), in their history books. They love and welcome Americans.
