Dianne's Story
Life
Education - BS in plant biology with a focus in genetics and breeding class of 2006. (It didn't take that long, I went back at 30!) I plan on continuing my education by pursuing a PhD in genetics, and am being strongly encouraged by friends (academia and not) and friends, though I was a bit derailed from the death of my mother (3/2007). I am interested in applying genetics from model plants to non-model plants. Overall, due to my lab experiences, my interest in crop evolution, domestication and biodiversity has only increased.
Career - It's exciting to actually be paid for something that makes me happy. No, I'm not being paid to lounge around the house or putter in the garden, but it's the next b...Expand for more
est thing. I'm now a scientist, really more a lab tech, but still I'm working in science, something I almost gave up hope for years ago (around junior year of high school). I'm currently work with walnuts at the USDA National Clonal Germplasm Respository in Davis.
Recreation - Infrequently I fool around with web development/design, and my website really needs the changes. On occasion I get outside an do some gardening. I can usually get the seeds started, but getting the seedlings transplanted into the ground doesn't often happen. I would love to have chickens, but I think that's a future thing, seeing as I'm not quite ready for them.
Family - Married, no kids, unless you count the four-legged kind.
