Dianne-romelle's Story

O.K- so here we go. After High school, I moved to Las Vegas and was a Keno runner and a poker dealer and a 21 dealer. (Yes, I was working while under age,and was turned into the gaming commission about 4 months before my 21st birthday). I stayed there for about 6 or 7 years, got a little burned out. Moved back home to the Bay Area. I auditioned for anything and everything and got a gig to perform in Japan (Singing standard jazz). Toured for about 1 year and then came back to the good old US of A. I Moved to Los Angeles. I was there for about 4-5 years and I Hated it every second of it. Got another gig in Asia, and that tour lasted for about 3-4 years, (Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, etc.) When I returned to the States (for good, this time), I stayed for a short time while my Mom passed over. Now, there was nothing holding me to California so I threw a dart (several times) at a map and moved to Nashville, TN. I LOVE it here. (I've been here for about 12 years now). This is not just the home of Country Music but there is a GREAT Jazz community here too. This town is EXTREEMLY artistic and Eclectic. It has an energy that I've never experienced before, and I JUST LOVE it. I have a regular 9-5'er. I work in a large call center (about 300 people) that helps people with their prescription drug insurance. I work on an "elite" team. My actual title is a "Medicare B & D specialist", (It just gives people the impression that I know what I'm doing). It's o.k.. it's a paycheck. I don't want to be there forever, that's for sure. Talking to drug deprived people 8 hours a day could drive a person to drink! My creative outlet: Well, although I was lucky enough to sing on the last CD that my dad did before he passed. (He was a Jazz Sax player). "With a Song in my Heart - Rick Fay". I sing "Someone to Watch Over Me" which is the 12th cut. It was a great experience and one that I will always hold close to my heart. I"m not singing any longer.. you know, life kinda gets in the way, mortgage, bills, relationship, etc. Anyway, I've become a bit of an artist. I create small (5 inches x 7 inches) personalized works of art. I create in Mixed...Expand for more
Media. Ink, paint, velvet, leather, beads, chains, etc. They also masquerade as personalized greeting cards. I specialize in taking an old pictures (i.e., of your grandmother when she was a young girl) and I incorporate the picture into a collage or put it on a background that highlights it as the focal point. I used to teach it at a couple local craft stores in town. I've just started getting into Shadow boxes. I don't have a website, but I'm getting close to creating one. My personal life?? Well, Brian and I have known each other since we were 12, and when we were in our early twenties, we dated briefly before my first tour of Japan and then, over the following 25-30 years or so, we would run into each other about every 5 years. He'd ask me to marry him and I'd say "no, I'm just not ready yet". Well, I called him in California around Xmas time of 2003 to get his father's address since I was sending out cards. He answered the phone by saying "So, are YOU proposing to ME now"? I did my usual "no, I'm just not ready yet". Well, our conversation ended with him coming to visit me here in Nashville and lo and behold, he never went back. As a matter of fact, his parents came to visit us for Thanksgiving about 4 years ago and they ended up moving to Nashville too. So, although we are still "not married" we are blissfully "living in sin". Our family consists of 3 Siamese male cats, Brian and myself. We have a house in a suburb of Nashville called Bellevue (yeah, I know, it's the same name as the famous crazy hospital in NY). No, I never had any children and don't regret it for a second. I'm happy being known as the "Cool Aunt". I've stayed very close to Joy Gardner who I graduated with in 1977. She and I referred to each other as "sisters" when we were in Borel Jr. High and we STILL refer to each other that way today. She has 2 children (who are now grown and out of the house). I remember my days at Aragon as happy and carefree, and I don't regret very much. I'm at a "Happy Place" now. I have my health, my family, my paycheck, and I have a creative outlet. My hope is that all my fellow '77 graduates are as happy as I am.
