Dolores's Story

Life Update 4/08 - We did finally find a house north of Pitts. near Saxonburg in 11/07. I also started working at the Hampton High School at that time. Our oldest graduated from YSU 5/07 & is currently living with us; working; auditioning, acting, and doing stage combat while seeking out grad schools. Our next daughter transferred from Univ of Findlay in OH to Buff State and then to Medaille in Buffalo as a vet tech/pre-vet major. Our son is now in 4th grade. We're trying to transform our "new" house into "our" house - that should keep us busy for the next 10 yrs. Update 12/06- Our house in NY state sold & I have now officially moved back to Pitts. PA. With the holidays, we have been travelling back and forth quite a bit since Thanksgiving, but I'm hoping after Jan. 1st to really settle in and start some serious house hunting, looking at places north of Pitts. in the Saxonburg and Sarver areas. Old news: Since I moved from Pitts. PA to Oneida NY in the spring of my freshman year (April 1973), I don't share a grade school history with the Oneida people or a high school history with the Pitts. people! But I consider myself a member of both classes of 1976. After graduating from Oneida HS, I attended a 2 yr state college in Alfred NY. Met my husband there. We married in 1980 and settled in Rochester NY for 10 years. He worked at Kodak and I worked a the Univ. of Rochester Med. Ctr. Our first 2 kids (girls) were born in 1984 and 1988. In 1990 we moved to Brockport NY (about 20 miles west of Rochester) which is my husband's hometown. We bought some land from his grandmother and began planning to build a house. In 1994, the house was done. He was still working at Kodak and I had worked for awhile at the hospital in Brockport and then got a job at the Brockport Central Schools (where I am still employed as secretary to the director of special ed). In 1997 we decided to add to our family and our son was born! In 2003, after 25 yrs, my husband was laid off from Kodak along with just about everybody else in Rochester.......and iron...Expand for more
ically after a 15 month job search, he ended up with a job in Pitts. PA! Because our younger daughter was a jr. in HS at the time, we decided to just tough it out until she graduated before we tried to sell our house and move the whole family to Pitts. So this month (June 2006) she graduates and we are putting our house up for sale and will hopefully be making the move to Pitts. sometime in the next year! Our oldest daughter attends Youngstown State Univ. (about an hour NW of Pitts. - she was attending there prior to the job change so the proximity to Pitts. is just a fluke) and the younger daughter will be attending Univ. of Findlay in Findlay OH (no I do not know what the OH connection for college is all about!) Our son is a 2nd grader now and will just stay with me in NY state until the house gets sold. My parents passed away some time ago - my dad in 1987 at age 80 - he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's when I was in 8th grade - that the primary reason we moved to NYS - my mother wanted to be closer to her family in Oneida due to his illness. My mother passed away in 2001 from emphysema and COPD at age 81 - she never could kick her smoking habit unfortunately. I'm looking forward to reconnecting with people from Keystone Oaks at the 30th reunion in July 2006 although if the people who went to St. Bernard's for grade school aren't there, I really won't know anybody since I only attended at KOHS from Sept. 1972 to April 1973!!!! I keep busy with work, church, and kid activities - making the switch from the girls who did dance and lots of music and drama activities to my son who likes baseball, tae kwon do and video games! Actually my younger daughter helped with the transition because she combined sports (cross country and track) and music the last couple of years of high school. Actually after watching my son's tae kwon do class for about 6 weeks, I joined as well because there were a couple of other parents in the class and I'm having a really good time with that! Nothing like something new to keep life interesting I guess!
