Don's Story
I told a story today that reminded me how much fun high school really was. It was about the time in 72' when my brother graduated and had a party at my parents house. Nuyttens and I decided to invite "a few" members of the class of 74'.
Steve and I were in our chaise lounges in my dad's backyard with a case of Bud between us. About 6:30pm my next door neighbor, Mr. Seleno saw us on his way out the door to the commencements at Ford Auditorium. He said," You boys having a party tonight", to which we replied " Yeah we have some friends coming over"....and off he went.
Between 7 and 10 the Class of '72 showed up. The street was a little jammed by the time my parents got home with Brother Bob and being as sweet as they were they went inside the house and turned on the tele and stayed in the den. Once the rabble-rousers of '72 arrived it got crazy for a couple hours. I went out front when someone told me my friends, Stack and Reider( of the SCS Police Dept.) had arrived.

talk to them since they couldn't make it to the house! It was about 11:30 by then and some folks wanted to go to sleep. This was the good old days when everyone stayed up to watch Bill Bonds and the Channel 7 News, so the timing was right. The cops told us that they opened the gates to the football field down Pallister and everyone needed to evacuate Shadylane, out of respect.
The mad dash commenced immediately and as I passed by, Mr. Seleno was on his front porch laughing away. He just said, "A few friends, eh?". The police estimated 300...and off we went.
For two years after that the police opened the football field at graduation time, till the Class of '74 ruined it by having a kegger there. My memory is a little foggy from that point on, was there a band there too?
Anyone who remembers anything about that time, like getting bit by Tippi (our fox terrier) or puking in the bushes from too much Ripple or Boonesfarm (ladies?) or having to go inside to ask my momma to use the bath, please tell it.
