Don's Story
LIfe
I am married and have two children, Brett 22 and Melissa 23. I left my job as the Chief Legal Counsel for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation about a year ago and moved to the Office of the Inspector General. From there, I was appointed to the bench and currently serve as a Superior Court Judge in Sacramento County. I continue to serve in the California Army National Guard - as the Commander of the California ARMY National Guard.

Time plays funny tricks on memories. I have fond memories of La Sierra, but I suspect things weren't quite as rosy as I recall.

Workplace
Worked as a police officer in the City of Sacramento before becoming a deputy district attorney in Sacramento County. Worked at the State Assembly, then for Governor Wilson at the Office of Criminal Justice Planning. ...Expand for more
Was staff counsel at the California Department of Veterans Affairs before moving to the Governor's Office to work in the Cabinet Affairs unit as a Deputy Cabinet Secretary. Worked at the State Lottery, then went to become the Chief Legal Counsel at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. After a short stint at the IG's Office, I was appointed tot he bench. I am now a supervising judge at the Sacramento Superior Court.
Military
I joined the Army in 1976 as a Military Policeman. After being commissioned in 1982, I remained in the California Army National Guard. I have served as an MP Company Commander, Battalion Operations Officer and MP Battalion Commander. After attending the Army War College in 2003, I was assigned as a staff officer at the Headquarters in Sacramento. I retired as a brigadier general commanding the California Army National Guard.
