I'm a rock 'n' roll guy. Don't know where I got it. Growing up my folks played Broadway musicals in heavy rotation (I can still sing them, they are perman...Expand for more
ently engrained.) But the first rock record I heard really hit me. I think I was 10 or 11, but I still remember, the thought, this is *like* "music," only somehow way better!
I have a wide experience singing, started in Jr. Choir at church, did everything possible in High School; All State, All Northwest, I was in a quintet that won the Wyoming "Stars of Tomorrow" competition; we got to be on Denver TV! (Ooo la-la!). I dropped it all in college; I did barbershop quartet-ing for years. But for me, singing rock 'n' roll beats it all hollow. And playing rhythm guitar along with it makes it the ultimate for me.
What is "art?" We like art because the artist can somehow say, sing or make visual authentic feelings emotionsl expression. The rest of us can feel these things, we have these experiences, but we are in awe of the artist because he/she can put what we feel on paper, or in a song. They express these feelings in a way we can't.".
