Don's Story

After my BS in Electrical Engineering, was employed by a Fortune 500 company, climbed from Engineering to Executive, after about ten years started my first Information Technology (IT) Company in 1996...and... what a ride! Had a great start, I worked from Dallas TX, to Buenas Aries, Argentina, made good money, but business soon dried up in the IT industry and therefore I had to change fields and focus... After returning from Argentina, we focused on providing voice, video, and data for commercial properties and the multi-family industry. This was decent business, but after managing major international contracts, these contracts were just too small to keep my attention...so I had a brilliant idea... Why not just build and own my own mix -use apartment complexes (residential over retail) properties verses contracting for services? So... I did! I started with a small apartment complex in the Dallas Metroplex and later grew to larger ones throughout the South and South west... Thus, the Commercial Real Estate Developer was born! Yea me!!! Nope...Not really... It was hard as "hell" to get the business going and several times I almost lost EVERYTHING! However, after years of determination and a whole lot of PRAYING... I survived the storm! I was a little battered and bruised but I survived! Currently, my development business is going very well, I built and own one of the largest buildings in Dallas Metro-plex (almost 1 million sqaure feet) and have several major projects in the works. Considering the market condition, I'm doing well and have not had to lay off too many employees and that's a true blessing for them and their families. My primary focus today is the healthcare industry. I am currently part of a team building major hospitals and multiple Clinics (over $900 Million) in Texas. Thus the story continues! As you can see, I have spent most of my adult life (still waiting to grow up) working... Yes, I finally found someone who would put up with me and "most" of the time she is even proud to wear her wedding ring! We have no children and my Dog (Malcolm) died and I still can't find the heart to get another one... The Wife keeps asking about children...and I don't know...I just never saw children in the cards for me. I love kids...just.... Not sure about this yet, but the next couple years will tell me what to do about children... always wanted to adopt a child and maybe that's an option...we will see... I do have great Nieces and Nephew (4) that I spoil every chance I get! They are so smart and they luv their Uncle Don! I guess you could say, the above is the "Glory" and chapter two would be the real "Story"... Like most, I have had my share of challenges... Losing my Mother...Expand for more
to cancer was the absolute worst experience to overcome...but through it all.. I survived and am a better Man for it... Today I surround myself with ONLY those that love, care, and support me; And I in-turn them... I have no time for "haters" or detractors... and of course no patience. It took me a minute to realize that there are many people who dont have your best interest in mind...Long ago, I used to be very concerned (in highscholol) about what others thought or if they approved...but today..I could seriously care less.... I have more than enough love in my life to last ten (10) life times....The bottom line, once I learned to love myself and share that love with those who are willing to share their love also... then I became happy... and very satisfied. I had someone ask me why am I so happy all the time? I could only answer...I'm surrounded by people who love and care about me...and thats all I need to enjoy each day. I have found love and joy all over the world so thats where my concerns and heart resides. I have done and seen things I only dreamed of. I have loved and lost...only to love again... I have met some of the worst people you would ever want to meet and have spent quality time with people you would almost consider Saints. I have found greatness in the smallest, and have become small in the presence of greatness...I work with, support, and am on the boards of a few select non -profits and charitable organizations. It's important to me to share my time, knowledge, experiences, or whatever I can with anyone looking to better their own situation or life. Maybe one day I will fill in some of the gaps and start on Chapter two! Okay... for the most part, since graduating from Millwood, I have furthered my education, had a great business career, traveled the world, married with a great Wife, and am happy as ... hell or heaven! :-) Also, I work out at least 4-5 days a week to keep in shape... Hike, Bike, Spin, lift weights, golf, mountain climb (trails not cliff hanging) and scuba dive.. I lead a very active life so keeping the pounds off is tough but very important! But again, this is only a small part of my story... and it's a pretty good story. For the most part... I've lived! And am still having a great time. If you took the time to read all this ..Thank you... I'm an extremely private person so sharing this online is not the norm for me... Now, that you've finished this read, how about making someones day a little better..How? it's up to you, but..think about it...this could be your last chance to make someone happpy or even smile...why waste it? Spread a little love and maybe a little JOY will enchance your life in return! Ciao! Don Lee
