Don's Story
After HS I went to Compton College and played football for a year. After that I went to UCLA on a football "scholarship". In the first game my right knee was injured (out that year). The next year just before the Stanford game I injured my left knee. I decided that that was enough punishment. So the next year I enrolled in Long Beach State where I received my BA. In 1963 I began teaching at Paramount Jr.High. In the fall of 1965 I met my wife (she taught at Moakler and Lincoln elementary schools. In the meantime, I continued my mathematics education at Los Angeles State. In 1966 I began teaching at Artesia HS. While at Artesia, I enrolled in a masters program in mathematics at Claremont Graduate School. When I obtained my Masters degree in the summer of 1971, we moved to Texas and I enrolled in a ...Expand for more
PhD program in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics. Our first son was born in May of 1972. We then moved to Grand Junction, Co in 1974 while I finished my PhD degree at Texas A&M in 1975. Our second son was born in 1975. In January 1978, we moved to Sacramento,CA. I taught at Cal St, Sacramento for 28.5 years. We retired in 2004.
My wife had been diagnosed with MS when she was 25. As time went on, she became weaker (last 20 years). She was very positive and courageous all that time. She passed away in June of 2011 one day from her 69th birthday.
I still have my football loyalties with UCLA and have been going to the home games for several years.
My football knees have finally slowed me down.
I have been upgrading my house over the last few years (I haven't yet run out of money)..
