Don's Story

Hello my Viking brethren. Been in Los Angeles in the TV, film and music business since 1979 after a wonderful several years at WLOX as the News Producer. I can't begin to tell how important that WLOX experience was in preparing me for the shark infested waters of LA and how much I really miss that job. I'm still a news junkie and often think of stepping back into that role somewhere. Still love the coast and visited my mother there as often as I could. She passed a few years ago, what an awesome fun and strong woman she was. Katrina was the push over the edge for her we believe. My sister Jill lives within an hour and a half and we see one another pretty often. She’s just the coolest. In early 2006 we went back to the coast and began shooting a documentary feature film about the struggle of rebuilding lives and recreating the culture so devastated by the storm. I got so fed up with hearing only about New Orleans on news accounts in the aftermath of Katrina that we packed up the coach, assembled a crew and headed to the coast. We shot for several weeks and got some really awesome stories and footage. My old bandmates and I got back together and composed and performed most of the soundtrack and I really believe it's fantastic. Several other coast musicians and bands contributed as well and it is still being downloaded. As it turned out, our recording of Debbie Stanbro's "Our Hearts Will Mend" was to be her last before her tragic death. We won many film festival awards and though I’ve been blessed to have worked on some amazing tv shows and films and with some of the biggest musical acts on the planet this film is in my top three projects of my career. I've had three wives (sticking with the third), have three grown super successful kids and a pretty darn good life. Still have to go into LA for...Expand for more
meetings and work now and then and my awesome very talented wife is a screenwriter and a full tenured professor at Pepperdine University so she travels from here to Malibu three times and month if not more during the school sessions. Besides writing fiction and non-fiction books and novels and penning a soon to be released (fingers crossed) television series based on the Medoran Chronicles she writes all my projects and amazingly has time to direct the graduate program in writing for TV and Screen at Pepperdine. She’s tireless. We work quite well together. Somehow..:she tolerates my weekend jam band get-togethers and even boils mugbugs and makes gumbo for us. We recently moved our “primary” residence to Joshua Tree California. I began coming out here in the 80’s to get away from the insanity of my business and fell deeply in love with the beauty and other-worldly vibe the area emits. It’s a thriving and vibrant art community and the architecture here is amazing. It’s not like most desert communities. I became deeply addicted to astronomy during my early visits and still deep into it. I have all types of telescopes and one beast that’s too big for one person to handle so it sits on a concrete pier in the back reaches of the property. The Milky Way is so clear and bright out here it makes a shadow on all but big bright moonlit nights. We still go camp in the park at my fav spot now and then as there is no experience like it. Supposedly there are several “vortex” sites one of which is located in my campground and I tend to believe it as I and my guests have had amazing unexplainable experiences. Cue the XFiles theme…. Hope to see some of you soon and hope you're all happy, healthy and own the winning lottery numbers!! Cheers Y’all! Don Wilson Our company and bios: AmericanaMediaInc dot com
