Don's Story
After Towson High School, I attended the University of Maryland and graduated in 4 1/2 years in January 1971. Joined the Marine Corps and stayed 20 years, retiring in 1991. During that time, I met my bride and we were married in 1975 in Barstow, CA...it has been 41 years.
After retirement, I started a small photography business, but supplemented my income by substitute teaching. I also took the courses to get a Virginia Teaching Certificate in Mathematics. For 13 years, I taught High School Level Math Courses in Middle School (8th Grade)...I taught Algebra I and Geometry. Funny...I failed Algebra I my first time at THS!
I took a partial retirement from teaching so I am a "triple dipper": Military pension, School Pension and Social Security.
I have two children; although one has decided to abandon the family and she, with my first Granddaughter, live in Idaho. My son is on his second marriage, but his first serious one; married a girl with a 7 year old son. They brought us another son, now 1 1/2 years; and by the time I finis...Expand for more
h typing this there could be another one, a girl...due ANY Day. They live in Roanoke and we visit a lot and are thinking of moving there; we have become great friends with the other in laws...they live in Bedford, VA.
My wife and I travel whenever we can; I ride my motorcycle with other retired old farts usually going out towards the Shenandoah Mountains, having lunch and coming back (between the rush hour times); I try to keep up with an old house; we have three dogs but no cats. I go shooting a lot with another group of friends and I am an NRA Pistol Instructor. About once every few months, my wife and I go Virginia Winery "hopping" with some friends up the street. Glenda, my wife, and Joe are usually the designated drivers. We can go on Fridays when the wineries are open but there are no weekend crowds. Virginia has several hundred wineries!
I am very active in the Knights of Columbus Council and was elected as the Grand Knight for this upcoming year (July to July).
We are really looking forward to seeing everybody again!
