Donald's Story

Life I went into the USAF when I realized I had a Low draft number. I met and married my first wife. Spent almost 3 years at Beale AFB. Then got orders to go to Thailand. I was exposed to Agent Orange and divorced my first wife. The Agent Orange was put into the Thailand Base water system, So I ended up drinking it... After discharge and divorce I met a wonderful woman and moved to Grass Valley.. We have been married for 47 years, created two sons and one of them created two grandsons! Oh and when in the USAF I adopted the adopted the nickname Chris. Just like my Father and Brother when they did their military service. It stuck. I am well known as Chris Christensen. After a 17-year involvement in Corporate America (Grass Valley Group) I started my own small company. I provided design and support services for performing groups. Theatre, Music, Sound Design, Lighting Design and Production Management. More Work Stuff I recently (12/2006) was selected as the Theatre Manager for NJUHSD managing both The Don Baggett Theatre as well as the Bear River Performing Arts Theatre. TEACHING!!! A side benefit of my employment at the schools, I have been the sharing my theatre experience with students. I host an invitation only Theatre Technician Class (Stage Craft) at school. It's after school, on the students own time! No grades, no attendance just learning the process, procedure and art of the technical aspects of Theatre. Every student want's to be there. The experience, for me, has been very rewarding. You would need to ask my students how they feel about it, but I have had returning students for four years! In November 2012 I was forced into retirement. Really miss the kids. With all the good that has been my life there has been a couple of what I like to call "...Craters in The Yellow Brick Road..." I remembered that I got that statement from an old boss. Thank you George! The past several years have been trying Visually. After a head trauma, I suffered early ...Expand for more
onset of Cataracts. First the left eye, then the right. I have had great Medical care.. Just three months after the right eye cataract surgery I had the misfortune of the Retina detaching in my right eye. The experience was, eye opening... I am grateful first and foremost to my wife for, literally holding my hand through the long recovery of the Retinal Surgery and the Medical team that restored my sight. That team was lead by Robert T Wendel, MD. I was VERY lucky to pull Wendel as my Dr and surgeon as he is a leader in the field of all that is Retina.. UPDATE: I ended up having another head Trama. They said no concussion but I sometimes have difficulty connecting words in my brain to my mouth... Could be much worse. MORE Workplace History I worked at a menial job right after school. The Draft was active and I pulled a low number. I decided that if I must do military service I wanted to choose. I went into the USAF. After the AF I worked in light construction for a few years. I found a job with a "small" local company: The Grass Valley Group. I was there for 17 years. I was a technician, engineer and manager. When I was downsized from GVG I turned up my part time Live sound and lighting business to full time. That turned into a lot of work and lotsa sound and lighting gear. UPDATE: Now: I am retired, selling off, giving away and sometimes throwing away equipment... YES additional work info I worked at Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival for 17 years. during my last ear, I broke my back, cracked a Vertebra, fortunately not too bad. That changed my retirement plans. More Medical After a Heart Stress Test, I bypassed a heart attack by proactively having stints put in My heart. Doing well. 5 years later: I Ended up having a heart attack, but it was treated quickly and well. Life has been good. The older I get the more important I find waking up in the morning! Hope you are all well! Sorry for jumping around with topics... Writing was not my strength in School
