Donald's Story
In 10 years, I hope to be alive. I'm going to get there by breathing.
My first job was at Adams exchange in L.A. at Pacific Bell Telephone Co., where I got paid $140 every two weeks on the 4/4 Plan in High School to rewire the switches. What I remember most about it is riding with a good friend in his Candy Apple Blue '49 Chevy with the Chrome glove box door and Teardrop knobs while listening to Roy Orbinson's new song, "Only the Lonely", which is still one of my favorites..
I never thought I'd ever move to Florida to live, but once I came for a visit to The Villages, Florida, I was hooked. If they don't have it here, either you don't need it or it doesn't exist. You can do as much or as little as you want. Sports of all sorts; Movies; fishing; Theater Arts; Professional Polo fields; free live Entertainment at two town squares every night with dancing or watching; 9 Professional Golf...Expand for more
Courses with restaurants, pools, and entertainment; a Night Club; two 32 lane bowling alleys; other restaurants of every variety; shopping center for everything imaginable; 32 9-hole Executive golf courses that are free to play; rec centers and pools in all of the 100's of Villages; Clubs for everything you can think of; etc; etc; etc; All of this obtainable with the main mode of transportation here....the Golf cart. About 75,000 residents so far, but we aren't completely built yet. Presidents, Stars, and high ranking officials have and do come to The Villages. 'Nuff said. Look it up at thevillage.com. Anyway, we are having a ball. There are "Snowbirds' that go back and forth from where their families are or where that used to live and like the summers better there, but more than half of us are "Frogs". That's right folks....we came here to croak. And we'll love the trip to get there.
