Donald's Story
Life
The day after graduation I started school at Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute (ATVI). About nine months later I enlisted in the Navy. After 23 years in the service of our country (20 of that in Submarines) I retired and went to work for RF Microsystems (now Effecture LLC) in San Diego CA where I am a Senior Systems Analyst/Technical Writer in Military Satellite Communications. I have been married twice the first marriage to Pamela Hamilton (from Merced CA) lasted nine years and produced two children Kathryn and David eleven grandchildren (yikes) and five great grandchildren. My second marriage to Kathy James (from Ohio and also a Navy Vet of 12 years) is in its 44th year and has produced two children Chris (in the Navy (submarines like his dad) for nine years, currently in the reserves and a contractor as well and Kim (who obtained two associates in art degrees at Miramar Community Collage and a degree as a Registered Vet Tech as well. Chris married his high school sweetheart Miss Sofia Decano of San Diego and blessed us with four more grandchildren (one of which passed after serious medical issues)...Expand for more
. I have not been back to Albuquerque since graduation and would be very interested in hearing from some old (50+ years older) classmates.
UPDATE: Well fellow classmates, it finally happened, I retired after 53 years in the workforce and at the young age of 70. I picked up with my lovely wife Kathy and two adult daughters one biological and one quasi adopted and moved to Sierra Vista AZ in Jan 2021. Time to start a new adventure, getting tired of the old ones. I figure I have at least 20 maybe 30 years left in this body and plan on making the best of it. I heard from an old classmate that Highland is no longer the respected High School it was in our days. Too Bad. I have not been back to Albuquerque since I left there in early 1970 and I must say I have not really missed it as my jobs took me all over the Pacific basin, parts of the Atlantic, at least 6 different seas, Gulf of Mexico and the Panama Canal, just to mention a few.. If you still live in Albuquerque hope all is well and for those of us who moved on to new digs over the years, I hope all is good with you as well. All of you take care and STAY SAFE.
