Donald's Story
Life
Many of you know me as Don Goetz. My brother, David Greene, accepted to be adopted by our stepfather George Goetz and had his name changed to David Goetz. I chose to keep our fathers last name, Greene.
During my years at ESHS I chose to use the name of Goetz. The 1965 ESHS Year Album shows my name as Don Goetz, but my diploma has my birth name of Donald Greene.
After ESHS I joined the military, became a USN hospital corpsman. In July 1966 I was sent to Vietnam with the Marines as a Fleet Marine Force Combat Medic with India Co, 3rd Bn, 4th Marines, and 3rd Marine Div, Recon Bn.
I was wounded January 1967 and spent five months in the hospital in Yokohama, Japan. In July 1967 I was discharged from the hospital and stationed in Okinawa at USMC Camp Courtney until September 1967.
I returned to USA in September 1967 and was discharged from active duty in October.
In 1968 I went to work for Western Airlines and also took classes at El Camino Community College. While working for the airlines I developed a yearning to travel.
In 1971 I sold everything and spent the next twenty months backpacking Europe and North Africa. That experience still provides spontaneous memories which makes my heart skip a beat and provides a smile on my face! In late 1972 I returned to Southern California , settled down a bit, rejoined the academic life and managed to graduate with a BA in Business.
While attending Cal State Northridge I met Jonee, my wife to be. We were married in January 1975. Jonee blessed me with two wonderful and beautiful daughters: Courtney in 1980 and Ashley in 1983.
I spent 23 years working with Becton Dickinson Medical in various sales and marketing positions in San Francisco, Kansas City, Salt Lake City, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh.
As an investment in 1988, we bought a townhouse on the golf course in the comminity of Silver Lakes located in Helendale, California with the intention of living there when we fully retired.
I took early retirement in from Becton Dickinson in 2002 to take an opportunity with Biosensors International, a medical start up company. It was a lot of work, but has proven to be definitely worth the effort.
Throughout our many corporate relocations Jonee also pursued her own successful career as a free-lance reporter and magazine editor. She is very active in USTA Tennis and was the Ambridge High School girls tennis coach while we lived in Cranberry Township, PA.
Courtney married in 2002. In 2004 they presented us with our first grandchild, Brendon and in 2008 presented us with another grandson, Brody. Courtney and Justin separated in 2009 and disolved their marriage. Courtney graduated from Nursing School and is now an RN. She and the boys live n Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. Courtney is engaged to Rob Boros and they plan on getting married early in 2013.
Ashley attended University Pennsylvania, Slippery Rock, on a tennis scholarship and graduated in 2006 with a Business Com...Expand for more
munication degree. She moved to Oceanside, California in 2009 and moved to Carlsbad, CA. in 2012.
Ashley went back to college and in 2011 graduated from the University of San Diego's Paralegal Program with a speciality in Business Litigation. She is now employed at a law firm in San Diego, California. She is single, LOVES going to the beach and Las Vegas with her friends!!!
Jonee and I both have a passion to travel and do so at every opportunity. We have traveled to Aruba, Australia, Bahamas, Bermuda, Europe, French Polynesian Islands, Hawaii, Mexico, and most of the USA states.
Jonee has also turned into a fine ÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂHarley Mama and encourages me to take her riding on our Harley whenever possible. We also like showing our restored 1975 L82 Corvette at car shows.
In July 2007 Biosensors relocated me from Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania to California. We moved to our townhouse in Silver Lakes and are enjoying the sunshine .. and ... no more snow!!
In May 2008 I had the opportunity to make a business trip to Weihai, China. Once business was completed I spent time visiting Beijing and Xian. China was an exciting experience. I'd love to return and spend time touring many historical locations.
In 2009 I was diagnoised with two forms of cancer. The VA Hospital determined the cancers were related to my exposure to Agent Orange during my Vietnam tour of duty. I continue to recieve oncology IV therapy to treat my cancer issues.
In June 2009 I left Biosensors to focus on confronting and the cancer. I look on the bright side, Jonee and I are staying positive and upbeat about our future. The VA is providing me with good care. Unfortunately my oncologist told me I was crazy if I didn't sell the Harley .. When Jonee heard that ... That was the end of Harley !
In May 2010 we bought another home in Silver Lakes on the Golf Course. We moved Jonee's mother from the Sacramento area to our townhouse in Silver Lakes so she would be closer to us and we could look after her.
In late 2011 my partner, Phil Cash, and I started Hummingbird Med. We designed and manufactuer a unique closed blood draw system to collect Umbilical Catheter (UAC) and Peripheral / Radial Line (PAL) Catheter Arterial Blood Samples on extermely low weight premature neonates in the NICU. We love what we do and look forward to developing other unique products for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Hummingbird Med has brought me a renewed positive view for the future and has been a big factor in keeping me busy doing something I love while I continue to not let cancer win.
Phil & I had planned on retiring sometime in 2016 when we turn 70. My god that sounds OLD!!!
But we will continue to work and develop new products for the NICU & PICU as long as we have fun in what we do. Although ... Jonee wants me to retire and enjoy our home in the California High Desert.
Jonee and I continue our travel adventures in the USA and abroad.
