Donald's Story
My story is simple. I hung with a small group of people back then. Some were in school and some weren't. They were, just to name a few, Bruce Salvadore, Eddie Ficks, Cecil Perkins, The Smith Boys, Mike Myers, The Womack Boys, and others.
I didn't grauduate with my class in 71'. I did get my GED after the military though. 71' was when I was suppose to have graduated. While ya'll graduated I was off the coast of Vietnam on a Navy Destroyer and dealing with the war.
I did attend the 10 year reunion (I was the guy that had a Limo ride that night) in 1981 out at Ft. Sam. It was nice, but none of the ones I had hung out with back then were there. I was disappointed about that, but still, all in all, I had a good time.
Since those days I became a peace officer (now retired) and worked my way up the ranks. Then I went into international bounty hunting for the FBI and CIA. Did that for 10 years. I now work for the Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice and reside in Jasper, TX. and have 1 daughter, 3 sons, and a step-daughter. All grown on their own and with kids of their own to raise. I am a grandpa now. Those agencies I have worked for are Bexar Co. Sheriff's Dept., Harris Co. Constable's Dept., Pct. 5 (Houston), Patton Village Police Dept. (Montgomery Co.), and finally back to Bexar Co. again before retiring.
I also am a professional published author (not self published). I write the "DANE" novels based on my life as an international bounty hunter of fugitives from justice all over the world. My books can be found any where books are sold.
Book One is titled, "Dane, a life and time thereof: First Bounty" and Book Two due out this August, 2010 is titled,"Dane: Saigon J.U.M.P.". They're written as fiction due to the cases still being classified "Top Secret" by thos...Expand for more
e agencies I worked for. Book One takes you from my age 12 years through to how I became a bounty hunter for the feds, and my first case with them. Book Two deals with a case that took me back to the shores of Vietnam to catch a fugitive there. I have spent my whole adult life in law enforcement and corrections. I wouldn't change a thing about it either.

I always wanted to be a cop when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a bad idea idea. As it turns out, they were wrong.
I practice martial arts. I am a 4th dan black belt in two styles, Tai-Kwon-Do, Aikido, and I use Tai-Chi to chill with.
I know it sounds corny, but my hero was, and still is, John Wayne.
It's not so much from my kids, but rather from their kids, that I learned that life is all too short. It makes you realize your own mortality. That time stands still for no man. Savor it, charish it, and make sure you are remembered kindly for what you have done when time runs out.
If I won $100 million, I'd give half of it to my kids, then spend the rest on charities, my wife and me.
In 10 years, I hope to be running a pure bred horse ranch. I'm going to get there by fully vesting my state retirement funds through TDCJ.
At age 7 sitting on horseback on my family's Ranch in Lytle, Tx. watching over livestock and seeing the sun come up. It was the most beautiful sun rise I have ever seen on a horse that I loved riding and working with. It was just me and my horse out riding the pastures that summer. It was the best time I have ever known being all by myself. It's something I'll never forget. I hope that at least one of my grandsons will experience that before I die and tells me about it.
