Donald's Story

My life has never gone as I would have planned it; it's a good thing God was in control, He knew what a mess I would have made if I were in charge. I joke that we will never win Publisher's Clearing House because God knows how stupid I will get with all that money. After high school, I started college at UCSB then joined the Air Force, to avoid being drafted. I retired from active duty in the Air Force after 21 years then from the Department of the Air Force at Keesler AFB in Biloxi Mississippi after 20 years. (It's hard for me to believe I spent 41 years with the Air Force). My wife, is a native Biloxian and a true Southern Belle; we don't have children together but she has a son from a previous marriage and he has provided us with two wonderful grandchildren. I have two children from a previous marriage and no grandchildren on that side. While in the AF, I became a Radar Electronic Systems Tech and spent almost half of my career teaching the Radar Principles Course at Keesler. After retiring from active duty, I went back to college, University of Southern Mississippi, and earned a BS in Technical Occupational Education, then returned to teach the same course I had taught all those years. I continued teaching for three years before being promoted to a Training Specialist position with the Weather Forecasters and have held several other positions since including Training Manager, Resource Manager and my last position as Policy Administrator for the Tra...Expand for more
ining Group Commander. The best Job I've ever had was Policy Administration, writing the commander's policies and advising the Training Group on higher headquarters policies (regulations). I've had the pleasure of working with and advising several great Colonels. The busiest time for me is prior to an inspection; everybody needs an interpretation of every word in every Air Force policy; I'm sure you can imagine the insanity. My greatest adventure is surviving hurricane Katrina in 2005. My wife and I watched the storm destroy her mother's house while ours was left with moderate roof damage. It was two weeks before we had power and before I could go back to work; Bell Telephone was out for five months while they rebuilt all the junction boxes. My hobbies include almost anything outdoors that makes me sweat. My wife and I cleared our property (mostly by hand), an abandoned horse pasture, and in south Ms if land is not maintained the wilderness takes over quickly and of course this pasture was well fertilized. I just finished installing a zip line in the back yard but my first big post-retirement project will be an extended front porch that will wrap to the side door of our home.. What about my future? This is it. . .we will travel a little and the rest of the time--lots of sweaty outdoor projects. My home e-mail address is dljones_papa(at)outlook(dot)com. Feel free to contact me, I will be glad to chat and catch-up on everything that we have missed.
