Donald's Story
Just a short history leson!
The week after high school graduation I got a job with MeDonald & Oliff loading trucks and railcars with orange concentrate. I was filling time until September to enlist in the military.
A college eduation was not an option ( no money).
In late June, out of the blue, I received a scholarship to Pratt Junior college, Pratt Kansas. I was so excited I ran across the street to the Jewelry store to show Gail McCaleb (who was working there)
Al Whitehead also received a basketball scholarship from Pratt. My mom and dad drove us out in mid August 1961.
After I graduated from Pratt I recive an inquiry from Appalachian State University. I spent two quarters there attempting to get a scholarship. No dice. Fortunatly, I had enough credits to qualify me as a senior.
However, my money and jobs ran out. I dropped out and came ...Expand for more
back to Wauchula.
In May 1964 I enlisted in the Air Force. In late 1964 I was sent to Goodfellow Air Base, San Angelo Texas.
As I was being processed in I met Carrol Platt. Carrol, aftering spending a year at Indian University for the Air Force studying an obscure Chinese Language, had just completed analyst school.
As things will happen, in January 1967 as I was being processed in at the National Security Agency, who do I run into being processed out? Yep, Carrol. That was the last time I ever saw Carrol.
While at NSA I met my future wife who was down for a weekend to visit her college roommate, who also was working for NSA.
We dated and the rest is history. We were married March 10, 1968 and I began my senior year at the University of South Florida.
I graduated in 1969 with a degree in Sociology which I have never used.
