Donald's Story

Graduated from UC Berkeley in 1963, then married CV classmate and fellow UC alum Linda DeJong in June, 1963. Spent two years in the Navy operating out of San Diego and Japan, then moved to Baltimore to start graduate school at Johns Hopkins University, where I finished in 1970 (Ph.D. Biochemistry). Linda supported me by teaching those five years, and managed to get a Master's degree herself during that time. a in Charleston, SC. Linda continued to teach, and finally retired in 2006 after delighting her students, and exasperating the education establishment in Charleston. Don't ask. Along the way we managed to have two sons, who in turn each also had two sons, confirming the presence of an aggressive Y-chromosome in the line (I was an only son, as was my father). But then, in 2009, our oldest son's wife finally coughed out a girl, the first female in the Miller line in nearly 100 years. We didn't know how to act. We are living in the mountains of North Carolina near Asheville, known as the "San Francisco of the East." It isn't, quite, but close enough. The air is relatively clean, the water mostly pure, and the living is good.
