Donald's Story
1964- To Much cutting out the Clementine St side door, for a smoke and lunch at the greasy spoon at Emerald & Clearfield, Have to blame Bill Ready, Bob Mcknight, or Wayne Bolden they forced me to go.
Anyway, I would have to redo 11th Grade, No way, My father got me a good job 2 weeks after school closed, He took me to K&A to that Red Plywood Shack on the side walk near the Midway Movie with the great advertisement poster of a Marine in Dress Blues, and photo's of Hawaii Beaches, No mention of VietNam back then, after all we were only advising them anyway.
My father said this will do you good, he was a former WWII Marine. He probably thought- If you try to cut out on this, the brig time will do you good too.
Mar66-Mar67 I found out alot about RVN from DaNang to the DMZ, my tour guide was the 9th Marines,
always looking for this guy called "Charlie" as Forrest Gump would say. Alot of times he would come to visit us "uninvited" the ultimate "Pop In"

I worked for Bell Tel. as a Cable Splicer, from Jul68-Jun70.
Jun70-Feb82 Phila. Fire Dept. E-29,E-31,E-11(Shang-Hied) (My Father got me this good job too, he was a fireman for 30 yrs)
Feb82-May93 Phila. Police Dept.25ht & 24th Dist. had to leave Fire Dept. Joe Rizzo and I had a difference of opinion about the Criteria used in the layoffs, ie: Lucien Blackwell's Nephew or a Joe 6 pack, hard charging, got your back covered guy from Wissinoming with more seniority. You guess who got laid off (Not me, I was not on the layoff list).
Retired May 1993, Started collecting pension immediately. My youngest son Scot on the job took my badge#, now a Sgt. in Narcotics.
1995-2005 Started Security Business, armed Escort Service.
2006- My Wife Carol and I Retired to Largo, Fl
2 Sons-2 Daughters= 8 Grandchildren last born 07-13-08 a boy.
Maybe sometime I'll write a book about each of my Jobs. God knows only those who walked in those shoes would believe the stories.
Combat Marine, Fireman, Cop, the three things most Fishtown boys want to be when they grow up.
