I love the job, as it offers a chance to train young educators for the classroom and allows me a great deal of freedom and flexibility. I work with a great group of seasoned professional educators at the College and in the public schools of Southwest Missouri. Update 2013- I am planning to retire at the end of the year. Retired from Missouri State University in 2014. Have been a volunteer(Education Specialist) at the History Museum On The Square in Springfield, MO. Voted the #1 new attraction in the US by USA Today in 2019. Spent several years on the Artillery Demonstration Team at Wilson's Creek National Battlefield (Civil War), loading and firing cannons and demonstrating how a common soldier lived. Sally and I are Community Advocates for AARP in southwest Missouri. Married to Sally, my best friend for 40 years, recently retired from social work for the State of Missouri. She is now working part time in the activities department at a local nursing home. Sally loves to work in the yard, read mystery novels and watch home improvement shows on TV. We travel every chance we get (New Zealand, Canada, Alaska, New England, Australia, Fiji, Tahiti, Belize, Mexico and Honduras in recent years) and plan to travel more in the future. We have two wonderful daughters; Shannon, living and working in Kansas City and Stephanie (getting her elementary education degree), married in April of 2004, living in Alaska with husband Kevin. Kevin operates heavy equipment for the city of Anchorage. Stephanie and Kevin presented us with our first grand child, Olivia Morgan Sager, in November of 2009. She is absolutely beautiful and the joy of our lives. Update, second child Eleanor, born in 2013, now 7 years old. Served two years as president of the Shay Owners Club International, a car club for owners of Shay/Camelot replica 1929 Model A roadsters and 1955 Thunderbird autos, produced between 1973 and 1984. I have owned both a Shay Roadster and a Shay T-bird. I sold my roadster to a couple from Colorado Springs in December of 2006, and now re-doing the T-bird. I am the administ...Expand for more
rator for the Shay Owners Club Forum website and just finished up as vice-president for communications in the SOCI. Sally and I travel to our club meets, both regional and national. So where am I now? In cyberspace I can be found on that big AMERICAn site that is always ONLINE. And I love ancient Egyptian history, especially ancient pharoh's. AMUNHOTEP was one of those great ancient pharaoh's that I really like. So think of that when you want to reach out to me for contact. College Mesa College, ended up in the dorm my sophomore year when my folks moved to Missouri. My roomie was Dedier Marc Yeves Jacques Mojean, a large French-Canadian art major. His "sport" was to shoot arrows from his cross-bow into an old stuffed chair, and occasionally missed, putting holes in the walls. Late one evening we had a room full of "misfits" and "Dee" made up some arrows with cardboard pants hanger tubes and masking tape and taped some M-80 firecrackers to them. Our room on the bottom floor of the dorm was just around the corner from a fire exit. We had a curfew so we propped open the fire exit door, stepped outside a few steps and prepared to fire the lit M-80 projectiles into the clear night air. The first went up over the construction of the new library and made a very nice "boom', echoing across the Colorado evening. The second went up, but only about 4 feet and came back down into our midst, still lit. About 6 of us present scattered quickly back into the dorm, but the fire exit door swung back shut, sweeping the lit arrow into the dorm, where it exploded in a loud shower of smoke and sparks. Within a few minutes the dorm father "Pop" Pittard stormed into our room, finding Dee and I busy studying, with books at hand. He looked around the room, silently, then quietly stated "I think you boys have had enough "study" for the evening. I don't want to hear any more of your knowledge being spread around!" and walked back out. Teaching career- I started teaching high school and junior high in 1971, retiring from that in 1996. I have taught at the University level since 1983, first as an adjunct professor in the Evening College at Drury University and now full time with Missouri State University. I hope to continue until retirement age, which would be over 40 years in education. I enjoyed all of my teaching, from Junior High to High School and on into University teaching. I liked to have fun with my students, and most of them survived my "dumb jokes" and antics in the classroom. I have the "dubious" honor of being Homecoming Queen for Ozark High School, 1996. I served as Student Council sponsor for a few years at the high school, and the student council would select the candidates for royalty. As a joke I would often submit my name in the discussion for candidates. Of course, I was never REALLY considered for election. When I was ready to retire from Ozark in 1996, I decided to actively run a campaign for election as Homecoming Queen, just to have some fun on my last year of teaching. I put up posters, "bought" votes for a penny apiece, got the ROTC to vote for me (by order of the Sgt in charge) and promised to "shave my legs if I won!". The election came, and went, and I was told I did not win. The school wouldn't even tell me how many votes I did get. However, when I was given a surprise retirement party at years end, I was informed that I HAD won the election. Of course, I would not want to spoil some lovely young lady's dream of being the QUEEN! I was given a crown and a sash by my fellow teachers. Good thing they did not want me to shave my legs after all! So, I was elected Homecoming Queen, Ozark High School, 1996!
