Don's Story

Life... Well, where to start? Done a lot since high school. Married. Kids. Divorced. Remarried. Probably a lot of you with the same experiences. I'm a musician now, living near Seattle. I also work in the high-tech sector designing PC motherboards (currently working for Intel). I don't have any "Then" pictures (I think I might have burned them all in a brief moment of sanity!), so both pictures are from more recent days. The "Then" pic is from a show we payed at the Whitehorse Mountain Classic Rockfest in 2002, with Elvin Bishop, Delbert McClinton & Little Feat. The "Now" pic is from a show I played in March with Jerry Miller (from Moby Grape - Rolling Stone Magazine's #68 of the 100 greatest guitarists in the world! He's on the far left in the pic). I spent 5 years in a band called Rebel Storm. The music was all original southern blues/rock. We put out 2 CD's; "Stormin' South" in 2001, and "The Hard Way" in 2003. There are full versions of the songs available on my website (just google "Don 'Big D' Swensen). We toured Europe twice, in 2002 & 2003, and we were awarded the 2002 GRITZ Southern Music Hall of Fame Horizon Award. That band has since gone by the wayside, but my musical life goes on. I'm currently recording a new CD with "The Nite Cafe", a...Expand for more
roots-blues project. The CD "Hollywood Flats" should be out in the summer of 2010 (Google us at "The Nite Cafe"). On June 20, 2009, I'll be playing a show in Nashville with some well known musicians from around the country. It will be a tribute to Marshall Tucker Band founding members Toy & Tommy Caldwell, and George McCorkle. It will be at the 30th annual Winters Brothers Southern Summer Jam. Started a new blues band called "mojo overload" in the winter of 2009, and we made our debut at a Breast Cancer Blues Benefit on Valentine's Day 2010. We're everywhere, so the easiest thing to do is catch us on Facebook. When I'm not playing music, I'm usually spending time with my wife Molly, landscaping our 7+ acres located on Puget Sound, and spending time with our grandkids. My daughter Caryn graduated from U of Wyoming as an Astrophysicist and now works in the video game industry as a game designer near Seattle. My daughter Xoe (adopted in 1985) also lives and works here in the northwest. My son Leif lived here as well, until I lost him to a car accident in 2003. But he left me 3 beautiful granddaughters, and I see them as often as I possibly can. Well, that's about all for now. Take care, hope to get the chance to talk to some of you some time. -Don
