Donette's Story
My story: 2 weeks after we graduated from SHS, I moved to Colorado Springs to attend business college. After graduating 9 mos. later, I got married to my 1st husband and in May 1971 when he got out of the Air Force we moved to NW Indiana where his family owned a family buisness. I have been here ever since.
I had 3 children (2 girls and 1 boy) before I went back to work. I was then divorced in 1982 and focused on taking care of my kids. I got a job in Chicago at the Merchandise Mart and met my current husband. He was a blind date and we have now been married 22 years.
I now have 3 step-grandsons and 4 granddaughters. The youngest is a year old.
My husband and I love to travel. I own and ride my own H-D Fatboy motorcycle and have been riding since 1996. I just resigned after 4 years as Director of our local Harley Owners Group. 2 years ago I met and road with Jim McCasland, President of Harley-Davidson Motor Co. when he came to ride in our MDA fundraising event. That was a thrill.
I have had many different jobs but in 1999 got into insurance a...Expand for more
s an agent with Northwestern Mutual. I am currently an agent with Shelter Insurance as a full-line agent and plan to retire from here.
There have been some rough spots in my life but all in all it has been a great life. My grandchildren are the lights of my life, along with my husband. I have traveled several times to Tokyo (where my daughter lived and my twin granddaughters were born in 2000).
I have made a lot of friend through the years and have been very fortunate to have them in my life. I wish I had been able to attend the reunion in 1968 year but I was in Missouri at another training period with the new job. I would love to see all my old friends from Salida but will have to settle for touching base with them through Classmates.com.
I have missed Colorado since the day I moved away but I visit as often as possible. Both of my parents have passed away but my sisters and brother are still there. My daughters and granddaughters live in NC and GA so I spend a lot of time in the Southeast.
Life is good. Hope your's has been as good as mine has.
