Donna's Story

Life For the most part, I'm doing well. At the ripe old age of 61, there are lots of funny and poignant memories of HCHS and some wonderful people I still remember. I hope all of you have attained contentment in whatever form and wish you all the best. School Lots of memories here, particularly having to do with theater arts, Harry Kazman and Mr. Nowak and Mr. Brahm in choir. Most of my extracurricular activities centered around being in a play or musical or choir and chorale. I think Gerald Nowak was the most powerful influence on me when I had him as my teacher for choir and chorale. Sadly, I didn't get to have him for all four years. He was a fabulous vocal musician and a great leader. He was able to draw every ounce of emotion from us when we sang under his direction. Every nuance in the music was brought to life by the raise of his eyebrow or a hand signal when he directed. Fabulous man, great teacher. Workplace I found my niche in the hospitality field, where I've been for the last 30 years, working in the private golf and country club industry. I do mostly public relations, video production, speech writing and membership recruitment. It's a crazy and most times demanding environment, but it gets under the skin and there's nothing quite like it. The money's not bad, work hours are long but I'm grateful to be gainfully employed, and to like what I do. Spare Time There isn't a lot of that, but what quantity I have I treasure. I bought a home on 3 1/2 acres out in the country 6 years ago. It's located about 30 miles from work. Thank God I have an economy car! The house is becoming more mine each day - probably the most fun part of it all is decorating it; exploring possibiliti...Expand for more
es, choosing colors, etc. It's a great feeling to pull in the driveway and feel the stresses of the day fade. The grounds are lovely, and the area is safe and very peaceful. The land FEELS good, and so many people from family members to friends who visit have the same reaction. Deer come and rest for the night on the lawn or in the pasture; nature abounds here and my animals love living the country life. I do as well. I grew up on about 18 acres in rural Hunterdon County, and I doubt I could go back to living in closer quarters again. So I'm blessed to have my little cottage. Of course, I'll be 84 when the damn mortgage is paid off, but I'm enjoying the NOW and trying not to worry about the LATER. My best friend would tell you I'm shy, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as funny and outgoing. I tend to keep folks at a distance, preferring to let them walk away with a chuckle. I consider myself fortunate, as the friends I have now have been so for over 25 years, and that's a great testament to their patience and my good fortune in having them in my life. I'm very close to my immediate family who lives in upstate NY. Sadly, we lost my brother a few years ago. I was very close to him. He was a fabulous man, and we all feel his loss profoundly. Both my mom and dad have been dead for over half my life, so in a sense, I guess my sister and I brought ourselves up for quite a while. I was only 23 when my father passed away, and then my mother passed away when I was 28. Happily, both my sister and I were given lots of lessons and good values which have stayed with us through the years. So all in all, life is good, and I'm hoping it's good for all of you as well.
