Donna's Story

Just past the 3rd anniversary of my divorce and life is very good. It is so nice to wake up refreshed and confident that I have the choice to choose my attitude for the day. I have relocated back to Midlothian, VA after 15 years in Chesapeake, VA and 1 year in Florida since 1990. I lived here in the 80's and had a terrible time leaving it, so when I made "the big life change" 3 years ago I knew exactly the place I wanted to be to start life once again. The choice has turned out to be exactly as I hoped, and I couldn't be happier. I changed my life totally and spent 2 years healing and rediscovering who I really wanted to be. My daughter lives in Richmond, and when our schedules permit we take a few hours to see each other. I started dating a year ago, ohhh so scary after not having done that for 40 years, but I did it. Met a lovely man through a co-worker and have been dating since. He is an investments manager and even though I already had one, it is good to get both their opinions which definitely parallel each other and confirm what is best to do, particularly since last Septmeber. We both enjoy traveling on short day trips, cooking, movies, reading and gardening. It doesn't get any better than that. Fast forward 5 years, (scratching my head on that one), life continues to move on. Still living in Midlothian, a suburb of Richmond) Changed retail operations 3 years ago working at the HomeGoods/TJMaxx combo store in Midlothian. Love, love, love my job, an opening and closing manager, which can be quite challenging at times, but I do love getting up and going to work every day so far. So I guess I will keep going until it no longer becomes fun. I tried retiring for about a year and missed working with the public. As I still have plenty of energy and am happy at the end of the day, I will stay a few more years. Busy planning things to get involved in when I decide to leave. Got any suggestions anyone? New Chapter of my life beginning January 5, 2016. Life just k...Expand for more
eeps on getting more interesting. I decided in mid November to retire my position at HomeGoods, and move back to Florida to be closer to most of my family. Tough decision to leave my job, and Virginia which includes my daughter and her husband. But 4 months later, I know it was the right decision. So, I managed to stay retired for 3 months and fell into a part-time position that keeps me busy 4 days a week for 5 1/2 to 6 hours a day. I love it, and the friend I am helping while her business grows. Have Friday and weekends to do what ever I want, with the understanding I will take off 4 to 5 times a year to travel. Life is good. No life is great!!!!!!! Hope all of you are enjoying this side of our lives! We are up to 2020 and oh what a year it has been. Rather than focus on the tough times, this year has brought to all of us, I am going to add an update on the positive. I made a decision in June of 2019 with my best friend for the last 11 years to not live apart from each other any longer. After several trips to Chattanooga, TN, we have decided to move there together. The city is full of great things to do and see and surrounded by the southern end of the Appalachian Mountains. Beautiful views in every direction! In July of 2019, I welcomed my first grandchild, a little boy!!! I came to Virginia from South Georgia where I was living for his arrival for 3 weeks. I returned in November to be able to spend the holidays with my family and started planning the move Bob and I will make in the summer of 2021. I started the move process from Valdosta to King William the first of the year and arrived here the day before the stay in place orders were coming from all over the U.S. What a relief to be here! We are in the process of doing some updates on the house here to put on the market in a February to March 2021 timeframe. We will all be together on the 31st of July to celebrate my grandson's 1st birthday! My heart is full and I will continue to look for the blessings in life...

Stopped here this a.m. at Pier 39. Some of the group wanted crab and lobster rolls for breakfast before the ferry ride to Sausalito. You can get delicious chowder and sourdough bread just about any hour of the day. I had so
Bye bye Lake Dunmore. We had a fabulous week. Hope to be back again someday. Now where is the Kleenex?
Saturday afternoon, and Irma isn't even close yet.
Temp is 52 degrees. Sitting outside having my coffee in this lovely little spot in the middle of the city. Feels so nice to actually feel like Fall has arrived.
Ah, the Redskins blanket I made for my son-in-law is working. The other side is fleece.
A beautiful cool breezy day at the Rappahannock River near Whitestone, Virginia

Our last full day in this heavenly spot. I love you Lake Dunmore. Hope to come back and visit again.
This is inside the Brandon Inn. Actually the Winter porch. Have always loved it here.
My niece Megan and I made this today. It's called a Kransekake. Comes from the Scandinavian countries and is often made at Christmas. Thought it would be a fun new challenge.
This beautiful arrangement just showed up at the front door, and I don't know who to thank. No name on the card.
This is one of my favorite views in Brandon. My mother and father were married in The Brandon Congregational Church on May 31, 1947. I was baptised there in July of 1949.
Sitting in my "coffee perch," watching the steam rise from the lake. Peaceful...
