Donna DuBois's Story

I'm finally retired after working 30+ years: 15 years at Kane Steel Co. in Millville as an executive secretary and 15 years for LeGore & Jones Appraisal Services in Vineland. I liked working for Kane Steel because there were about 35 people in the office and I spoke with people from England a couple times a week. They laughed at my accent and of course I laughed at their accent. The appraisal company was very hard because I was the only employee for the 2 appraisers and alone about 80% of the time. I didn't mind running the whole show, but it was very lonely. Now that I'm retired, I've joined a Red Hat group that mostly all graduated in 1954. It's fun being the "baby". We go to lunch once a month and rotate having "game day" once a month. I also bowl every Wednesday morning. For over a year now I've been in a pinochle club with girls you'll know: Pat Krupa Ingersoll, Carolyn Seeley Turner, and Janice Granger Sutton. We have a great time. Of course, lunch first, then playing cards. I'm also very involved with my church: St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Bridgeton. I'm a Sunday School teacher for the lower grades and secretary of the women's group. I'm also on the audit committee this year. Jim and I will be married 48 years on Feb. 8, 2012!!! Can't believe that. Couldn't have picked a more wonderful husband and father for our children. We have 2 girls and a son (who passed away in 2004). That was tough, but our daughers and grandchildren (4) have helped tremendously. We live in Upper Deerfield Twp. and we have a trailer in Fortescue (a familiar name for probably most of you). Fortescue is a wonderful place that you can take walks to the beach, look for shells, fish, and play pinochle!! As you will recall, the BUGS are a problem: first knats, then black flies, next GREEN HEA...Expand for more
DS, and finally dragonflies. When they come and finally eat the greenheads, it's lovely down there. We live in bug spray!! Just about every Friday night we eat at the Charlesworth with a large group of locals. It's a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to our 50th reunion. This will be our largest reunion by far. The class of '61 had about 280 for their reunion. I know we can pass that!! Of course, we'll have to start exercising so we can dance without losing our breath!! LOL I was going to do a facebook page, but decided against it. I'm not sure how to make some things private and I know you can't tell who is "looking" at your stuff. I wouldn't mind my classmates, but it's others that worry me. I did start one 2 years ago and never went back -- so if you see my name somewhere, there's nothing on the page -- nothing. Well, that's enough about me -- what's happening with you? Our 55th reunion may have been our best reunion ever! It started with a Friday night meet & greet at Ramada, which was a lot of fun. It was easier to talk with each other in smaller groups and actually have conversations. We had about 50 that attended the Friday night get together. Saturday night was a lot of fun too. The DJ thanked me for educating him on our music. I told him NO Frank Sinatra, etc., and gave him a list of Doo Wop songs etc. that we could dance to. He took pictures that night and posted them on a 50" tv that he brought. Food was good and there were about 125 in attendance. We had over 200 at our 50th reunion and it was very crowded, With less people, it was easier to visit and dance. I got to jitterbug with Janice Granger and it was a blast. You know how good she dances. If you attended, please let us know what you liked or didn't like about the reunion. Your friend, Donna.
