Donna's Story

There were so many people I liked in High School. I would love to reconnect and see how our lives have changed. My regret in school was that I did not participate in the special interests' groups, like drama and "year book." I chose to work to afford a car. Typical focus of a teenager, huh? My life has been blessed. Even the trials of my life brought me miracles. I attended CPCC for a few years and there I met Ron Gillespie. He was opposite from me. I was more of a hippy and he was a computer programmer dressed in tailored attire. We liked the differences and married in 1972. In the 23 years of our marriage, we had a boy, Shane and a daughter, Shannon. We became foster parents in 1980 and fostered many children for the next 17 years. Our family has always kept our doors opened to our children and their families. Three of my foster children have given me a total of eight beautiful grandchildren. Ron and I divorced. I was single for two years when I met Tony Foster. Instead of being different, we have many similiar interests and one is to fully enjoy life. I have three precious step-children and seven grandchildren from them. I ha...Expand for more
ve twin grandchildren (boy & girl) from my daughter Shannon and her husband, Patrick. Shane and his ex-wife, Stacie have a boy and a girl. Between Tony and me, we have 5 children and 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren! I blinked and here we are----SENIORS! Tony is retired from Duke Power and we live in Marshville, NC. We started with two goats, two dogs and two horses. We lost many of our furbabies and now we have one sweet dog. I was a massage therapist for 12 years while working in Child Welfare for 28 years. I first started training new foster and adoptive parents. Then, I became a trainer of trainers who train these parents. I write books and do keynotes on the topics of foster care, parenting and marriage. I think humor has been a huge part of my life. In Dec. 2019, I retired from North Carolina Department of Social Services as a State Consultant and Trainer. Now, I do a few contracts for agencies but my love is writing. I published a book for children in foster care and adoption titled, "Shelby and Me: Our Journey Through Life Books." I am still having fun in life! There have been trials but many blessings!
