Donna's Story

Life After attending Herkimer County Community College and getting my AAS degree majoring in court reporting, worked in NY/LI for five years. Married Thomas Linton, Labor Day, 1987. Moved to Tampa, Florida, 1989. Moved to Northern Virginia 1994. Had our daughter Natalie September 1996. Opened own agency 1997. Became president of the Virginia Court Reporters Association 2000. Active on newsletter committees, student mentor program, some legislative and pro bono. On Election Committee and Neighborhood Watch committee in homeowners association. We divorced recently. Natalie and I have two cats. Sam passed six years ago. Love being active and playing raquetball and traveling, dancing and movies in spare time...or make spare time, aside from the typical gardening, baking, cooking and reading I've always loved. School Biggest crush in junior/high school was my boyfriend, then husband, now ex, father of our child, Tom. I remember Brian Clifford being mad at me and I think he cursed me for my later 30s and 40s :) Miss Brown inspired me most. She may have taught me Gregg Shorthand, but she taught me so much about punctuation, that it's helped me in my machine shorthand career. Guidance counselor Mrs. Gibbs, too. And Home Economics. Loved all my teachers and most everyone loves my cooking and baking. Craziest school memories: so many. I loved all my friends and the things we did together, especially Christine, Susan, JoAnn, Michael, Kenny, Tom, Kim, Rachel, Morgan, and Teresa should have been with us. Darn that Catholic school! I remember being so nervous about cutting school for the first time and going to the beach. We lived on Long Island. How could we not? College College is such a blur. I was Bambi ou...Expand for more
t there ripe for the picking. Six hours from home, took a city/Long Island girl into the mountains. I learned fast after that first semester that if it was to be, it was up to me...up to me to stop partying and get to my 8:00 classes (hee hee). Desiree, my roommate, saved my butt from the beastly boys and I sure could still use her here today to weed out the beasts from the princes in my 40s. I lived on mac & cheese and those packages of noodles. And I'll never forget the roommates that had a gastly flour fight in the kitchen. Me Miss Neat Freak was livid! And who can forget the starting of our first sorority for Herkimer and the initiation we did, and the three beers for a dollar and finding out we lived in what used to be a funeral home (hee hee). Sue introduced me to Friendly's coffee and tuna melt sandwiches! Sandy kept me grounded. Paula and Annette kept me laughing. Workplace I think I said it in my "life" profile, but after six months of reporting, I stopped and worked in Good Samaritan Hospital part time, worked at an electrical wiring company part time and then got thrown back into court reporting. I worked on weekends at the movie theater where Mike Craig got me a part time job on weekends to keep me out of trouble as a cashier when I couldn't keep up with reporting and the hospital seven days a week. If anyone remembers how bad I was at math, they'd know I didn't make a good cashier. Never even went to pick up my last pay check. I made a career out of court reporting but I even work with Mary Kay on the side. Military That is really funny! Me in the military....ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. No upper body strength, too much of a late-nighter and I envy all my military friends for their discipline and courage.
