Donna's Story
I retired in Feb. 2010!! I have worked as a pediatric nurse , mostly non- hospital settings. Just after retiring, I had the second knee replaced, then 9 mo. later was diagnosed with breast cancer. I went through surgery, chemo and radiation and am now a 10 year survivor!!
Dick and I took some nice winter trips to FL and the Keys. He refused to be retired, so he kept himself busy flipping houses for 10 years. He was always busy and loved the challenge. I enjoyed a little yard work, taking care of our dog and two cats, feeding the wildlife in the back woods and always knitting and crocheting winter items for the needy. Our daughter, Dawn is now 47....no grandkids...just an old grandcat!
Update-2021 !
2019 was not a good year. Dick fell last August, broke his hip and died 2 months later on my 72nd birthday. His brother, Roger, died 8 days later. My Mom had been here in Hubbard for 6 years...she was hospitalized for 5 weeks, then transferred to a nursing home for 5 months and she died in April, just before Easter. some very uncertain times, a not so wonderful marriage of 52 years, and I have successfully emerged from all that had to be dealt with, as I was executor of both wills. I look back and don't know how I did it....... We have not had a memorial service for Mom, due to Covid. My brother was coming back from CA in July for his 5oth Reunion, but it was cancelled. What a strange year this has been ...very strange. We all have to learn to live with this horrid virus for a long time.
Positive Note- I have met a very nice man, Ken.!! He has changed my outlook on life. We are enjoying life, laughing a lot and just love being together. He has been an Old Car Enthusiast all his life also (didn't know this before we met)- Corvettes were his specialty for 41 + years. He has restored many gorgeous cars since he was a teen. We are able to enjoy rides in my '02 Mustang convertible, and at this point eating at restaurants that have outdoor patios!
So, I have a new life and I am very grateful. I have had to learn a lot, But I must say that I enjoy "being the boss" !!
