Donna's Story
After Godby, I went to FSU for four years, then briefly worked for the Department of Corrections. I realized very quickly that the lawyers did half the work for twice the money, so I went to law school.
Two months before law school though, I got married to a guy I had only known for six months -- Bill Waters. I'm sure people thought it would never last. Here we are, 24 years later, still doing great!
So Bill put me through law school, with help from our parents and Uncle Sam. Then we moved to Pensacola. he got a job at PJC as a professor/administrator and I started putting people in jail as a prosecutor.
Finally Bill decided he wanted to go back to school for his PhD. We moved to Tallahassee, where I worked for the Legislature's Commission on Juvenile Justice. Despite not having kids for 8 years of our marriage, as soon as I was the sole support of the family, we had our oldest daughter, Dorie. We moved back to Pensacola wh...Expand for more
en she was two months old, and I went back to putting people in jail shortly thereafter.
Five years later, in 1997, we had Lucy, and in 1992 I went into private practice doing criminal defense and divorce law. (hated it!!!)
In 2007 I was appointed as General Counsel to the Escambia County School Board, which is the greatest job in the world. I oversee all the legal issues for 41,000 students and 6,000 employees, so it is almost like a small town or a major corporation.
Bill and I enjoy hanging out with our girls at the beach (yes, I still am so pale I am mint-green -- thank God for sun screen!), going to the theatre (my oldest has won acting awards and has studied drama in NYC), our church (I am Episcopalian now instead of Baptist, so yes, I do drink!), and generally being over forty and boring (according to my daughters).
I'd love to hear from everybody from GHS -- it was fun. But I sure don't want to go back and relive it!!!!
