Donna's Story

Hello KHS Classmates! What fond memories I have of KHS! I love walking down memory lane and remembering those "Good Old Days!" I lived at the corner of Macon Road and Vaughn. The house on the corner..."all fenced in", right across from Gaisman Park and right next door to Cheri Gray. I have great memories of Summer Shopping Center! Crusing through Shoney's, Krystal and McDonalds. I remember fondly...Don West, Lee Roy Beard, Brantley Jones, Jimmy Young, Cathy Poff, Debbie Parish, Billy Hubbard, Joe McCrady, Jimmy Love, Joey Hadley, Steve Rossell, Gary Hearn, Marie Young, Butch Bass, MaryAnn Strayhorn, Connye Cox, Connie Short, Wanda Wolfe, Debbie Wright, Donna Rose, Nancy and Mary Spoon, Blue Light Studio, The Box Tops, Rainbow Girls, "Boy's Town", Imperial Bowling Alley, ELVIS, Jerry Lawler, "60's music, weekend car races at Lakeland, the Summer Drive-In, Gaisman park and taking baton lessons there with Linda Huddleston. Our rivalry with Treadwell HS. I have so many wonderful memories of KHS! I feel sure I have forgotten someone important, but I cherish all the memories! THANK YOU! I did attend the 10 year class reunion, but did not attend the 20, since Joe McCrady had planned for Linda Huddleston and myself to twirl batons. lol! Carl and I were married in 1980, he graduated from Overton HS. We have two beautiful daughters, Dawn and Dori. It took me a long time to find such a good man, but it was worth all the trials and tribulations to finally find him! We have had a great life! Both our girls attended college and both had 4.0's. Dawn decided to quit and marry, while Dori went on to graduate from Ole Miss, with a degree in accounting. We have three beautiful grand children, Tyler, 17 - Erica Gayle - 6 and Noah 2. We have custody of our 17 year old grandson, who is six foot five and weighs 350 pounds. We are working hard to make sure he graduates May 2009. Love those grand kids! My husband has worked for the IC/CN railroad for 35 years. In two years will be retiring, as you can retire at 60 when you work for a railroad. Guess who is the CEO and President Of CN? Hunter Harrison (KHS'66). Working for the railroad, we have been transferred to New Orleans and Chicago and finally back home to Memphis. That is how I met my best friend, Arden. She has lived in New Orleans, all of her life and let me tell you folks, they are still recovering from Hurricane Katrina. Went for a visit last June and was shocked that alot of it looks the same as it did when Katrina first struck, especially around the Lake front. It is heart breaking! They are still recovering, going on three years, since Katrina first hit. An...Expand for more
yway, I love to go back and visit Arden! We always have to visit the plantations, especially Oak Alley and must grab a shrimp po-boy, café au lait and beignets. We stop in at The Cajun Village, in Sorrento, LA and right down the road from the Cajun Village, THE CABIN RESTAURANT. We also have to stop in at Deanie's Seafood located in Bucktown, but they also have one in the French Quarter. You can get the best fresh seafood ever, especially their Bar-b-que shrimp. We love New Orleans! Now, as far as Chicago, Southern Belle's just don't do well in all that snow and cold. But there is ALOT to do in Chicago and we became White Sox's fans. After being transferred back home, we bought a home with 8 acres near Senatobia, Mississippi and love living in the country! We have four dogs and a cat. My husband has diabetics and I have COPD. Unfortunately, I guess these things happen as you grow old. I live for Nascar! My favorite driver is Jimmy Johnson. Also like Clint Bowyer and Jamie McMurray. We also enjoy Riverkings Hockey, Memphis Redbirds baseball, working on our property and spending time with our family. We love to cruise on "Carnival" and have been to Grand Cayman, The Bahamas, Mexico and Alaska. We have also been to Disney World four times and will take our youngest grandson, hopefully the summer of 2009. We use to go to Gatlinburg, ALOT, but since we lived in Chicago all those years, we have had enough cold and snow to last a life time! On our 20th wedding anniversary we were lucky enough to go to Hawaii and stay at what was, "The Turtle Bay Hilton", in Oahu. We are planning to return, upon retiring. I love being on the computer and even have a My Space page, mainly to keep in touch with family and friends. If anyone remembers my Mom, Joy, we lost her to lung cancer October 16, 1993. It is difficult to lose anyone, but I don't think you ever get over losing your Mom. My Dad, Lawrence, lives in Muscle Shoals, AL and will be 80, April 2008. It's good to see the notes from classmates, and keep track of what's been happening, over the years. It's sobering to learn of the passing of our teachers and classmates, but it's comforting to share memories of them with other friends. I will always cherish the memories and hold them near and dear within my heart! Thank you! Upon retiring, 2010, we will be turning over the gavel to the next generation. I hope we made our impact and that we were a positive force. For the years that we have left let's dedicate our time and talents to Godly causes, our family & friends, and our nation! I would love to hear from any KHS classmates. Donna Gail "Whitehorn" Sheridan
