Donna's Story
Life
I've been teaching school in Florence, SC since 1984. I have taught grades 1 -8 since being in the district. I am currently a fourth grade teacher with about 4 years to go until retirement (looking forward to my next career-some sort of sales). I met my husband here and we have been married for 11 years. I am a true believer that good things happen to those who wait and I have truly met the love of my life. My husband is a native South Carolinian. He has tried to make me a southerner since the time we have gotten together, but in the past few years, he has given up. He realizes that he is stuck with his "Yankee" wife. I think that our differences keep our marriage very exciting. I hate to say that he adores my "Yankeeness". Despite that he was born and raised in Bennetsville, SC, he has a lot of Western Pennsylvanian in him. I have married the true Steelers fan!! He knows more about the Steelers than I do, which is very sad since I spent the first 25 years of my life in the Pittsburgh area.
I'm also the mom of a very active 9 year old son. As you can see, I have continued to be a late bloomer. Having a baby at 40 has been the happiest accomplishment of my life. He is such a cool kid. He is a triple high red in Tae Kwon Do(he will soon be testing for his black belt), loves music, and is the biggest Harry Potter fan (look at pics).

ently finished tying up loose ends with the house sale and probate. It is funny after being away for almost 24 years, I am starting to get homesick for my hometown. My husband and son love to visit the area. My husband has been an avid Steeler fan since childhood and my son, well, he loves seeing the places I loved growing up. He enjoys seeing all of his aunts, uncles, and cousins while he visits PA, plus going to Kennywood and Idewild. It is wonderful seeing stuff again through his eyes. It makes me feel young. We have spent many a summer in Western PA, but also enjoy the Grand Strand of Myrtle Beach, SC. We are only 72 miles from the beach and take every opportunity to get there. If my husband and I were retired right now, I think we would live in the area. But I guess it will have to wait until our son graduates college (in the next 12 or so years). I love to go to the outlets and the three of us love to putt-putt and go to the fantastic restaraunts in the area. Those of you who venture there, take time to go to Family Kingdom, Broadway at the Beach, and the Dixie Stampede. You will truly have a ball there.
I don't get the opportunity to "visit" with former classmates, friends, etc. due to my job and other responsibilities. I have gotten a little more of a chance due to my family issues (been flying up a lot). Would love to reconnect with many of my friends/collegues of the past. If you get a chance, drop me a line - would love to hear from you all! Take care!!!
