Donna's Story

I am married to Jeff Zink and have been since 1978 when we moved to a small town called Kahlotus, Washington with Jeff's family farm. The farm eventually went bankrupt and we were forced to move on. I am glad that we did since our lives got better financially. But working on the farm was one of my favorite jobs. Jeff became a truck driver and I went to work in various odd jobs. Eventually I became a firefighter and EMT, working weekend graveyard in the emergency room at KGH. We currently live in Mesa Washington where we raised four biological kids and two nieces. We have nine grandchildren and one great grand child. Pictured above is Jeff and I, a couple decades ago with our first grandchild. After raising our family, we both attended and graduated from Columbia Basin College. Then it was on to Washington State University. I graduated with a Master's Degree in Nursing and Jeff graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. After almost losing Jeff to a catastrophic illness, I retired and I currently am an activist and Public Record Requester; hobbies. te Supreme Court to present a PRA case I was joined in when I requested public records. I didn't do as great as an attorney. But not many people can say they argued before the Supreme Court so it is an experience I am glad I got to undertake and I don't think I did as bad as some of the attorney's I've seen argue. The video can be found at TVW.org. I am the second and last speaker. After moving to Mesa, Jeff went to work for South Columbia Basin Irrigation District in the late 80's where he moved up through the ranks. A few years ago he was promoted to the Mesa Water Master; a job he has wanted for a long time and that he really enjoys. So basically, although the first 10-15 years were hard going, in the end things went great for us. We are about to celebrate our 39th anniversary and could not be happier with our lives together. So I am very glad I did not listen to any of you who told me it would not work out for us because we were too young. Jeff was always the one for me and, even during the particularly hard times we went through, I couldn't imagine going through life without Jeff and I'd definitely do it all again.
