Donnette's Story
Life
My husband Jeff and I reside in Longview, Washington. It is about 1.5 hours from Portland, Oregon. We moved here from Puyallup two years ago. Jeff was able to get a job at a computer company in Oregon. I travel to Tacoma (1.5 - 2 hrs each way) 2-3 times per week to Department of Social and Health Services. The rest of the week I stay with one of my supervisors or my sister and family. I have two sons, seven grandchildren, one dog, Dachshund named Brandy, one male cat, Keiki (kay-e-kee) or Bubba as his nickname, and a female cat named Maile (My-lee). I went back to school and obtained a B.S. in Psychology, an M.A. in Counseling Psyc, a certificate in Geriatric Mental Health Specialist, and almost finished my Ph.d. in Counseling Psyc, but had to drop out due to mitigating circumstances. I am back at school again to obtain a B.S. in Computer Information Systems. I enjoy learning and will be a
career "student."
I always wanted to be a writer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right.
Well, circumstances have changed a little. My mother passed away a day before my birthday, became ill, went back to my old job with the state. In the interim, I was working close to where I live, but decided to back to my former job. Then a boulder hit me straight on the head. I became closer to the Lord. Imagine that!! I began writing lyrics to Christian music and Christian children's stories. I will be setting the words to mus...Expand for more
ic. My friends who also attend the same church as me will be involved. My friends, the husband can write music, which I can't. His wife teaches singing and said I have a "true alto voice." Shocking!!! I also want to write grants for funding for the underprivileged. I know we are already in a financial crunch. I don't know how or why I will be writing grants, but it will be for the elderly, mentally ill, developmentally and physically disabled, and grandparents raising grandchildren. I will be developing a website for those who are not able to obtain certain resources. I have found that I have a talent for networking and looking for resources. I believe it was divine intervention that will carry me through. I am blessed.
I used to keep things inside and then vent once a month like a steam kettle. Now, I just pray a lot and thank God for my blessings.
I cannot let all my secrets out, can I?
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have inspiration, guidance from God, and he is always with me to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Another thing has happened this past weekend. I began to write poems, lots of poems with Jesus pointing me to the right path. I continue to be blessed.
My hero was my grandmother, like my "Heavenly Father," had unconditional love for me. She was the encouragement behind the poems I have written. I started writing when I was 8. It didn't come to fruition until later this year. I knew I always had talent for writing, technical and creative.
